SAN DIEGO -- Every month, San Diego’s arts and design crowds flock to Kettner Nights in Little Italy North, where art, design and antique shops extend their hours until 9 p.m. for a unique sidewalk event.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, Kettner Nights attendees will have the added bonus of celebrating the grand opening of At HOM, a specialty store dedicated to one-of-a-kind furnishings.

The "Mad Men" themed celebration will feature complimentary cocktails, appetizers, and music. At HOM owner Lee Thomas tells San Diego Gay & Lesbian News that guests can expect fun and sophisticated style.

Guests will make their way to the front door on a red carpet, flanked by sparkling trees, and complete with a movie projector featuring "Mad Men" clips.

Thomas is excited about the grand opening celebration, and even more so about being a part of Little Italy North's art and design district.

"I searched for over a year to find this location," Thomas said. "Little Italy North is not only a pleasant area to shop in, but the merchants in the area are so welcoming, and carry their own unique products."

"There are fabulous art galleries, antique and vintage shops, and other furniture stores selling their own unique products," Thomas said. "This is truly an art and design district and a perfect fit for At HOM. We couldn't be more excited about opening our doors on Kettner Nights."

The Art and Design District of San Diego’s Little Italy was modeled after New York City’s trendy SoHo and Chelsea districts, offering art-lovers and design patrons diverse resources.

One step inside of At HOM and you will know immediately why this place belongs in Little Italy North.

"We don't believe in "trendy" furnishings," Thomas said. "Rather great design with a fresh perspective that will remain timeless."

"A well-designed home is one that has had a lot of thought and feeling put into it," he said.

Thomas, who has been combing the world and local communities for the most unique and artistic furnishings for the last 14 years, stresses that a truly pleasant environment really makes you feel at home, and it must embody the homeowner's own uniqueness.

"In order to create an environment unique to you, its important to have unique products. Original and local artists, vintage and antique pieces mixed with new contemporary furnishings that are customizable help to create that unique home," Thomas said.

At HOM is Thomas' second store. He credits the success of his Palm Springs store to his ability to offer great design at a great value.

"Out outstanding design service helps customers create a look that is cohesive and specifically tailored," he said.
