PALM SPRINGS – Santiago Communities, owner and operator of numerous manufactured home communities, has announced their Great Home Giveaway.
Participants have the opportunity -- through March 31 -- to win prizes including a new home, new cars and cash when they refer their friends to purchase Santiago homes.
The grand prize winner of the Great Home Giveaway can have their new home located in Santiago’s LGBT-friendly Sun Canyon Estates community.
“Along with Key West and Provincetown, the Palm Springs area is one of the most famous places for gays in the world,” said John Brady, founder of TopRetirements.com. “Palm Springs has a significant gay population, and the straight world is generally open to those in the lifestyle.”
The first person to refer three friends to buy new Santiago manufactured homes that close escrow will be able to choose from a new Santiago home, a new 2011 Hyundai Blue or $6,000 cash after the close of all three sales.
If the winner chooses the new home as their prize, then the home can be relocated to Sun Canyon Estates in Palm Springs or any of Santiago’s other communities. The winner will also enjoy one-year of free space rental at the community they choose.
“Santiago's goal is to build inclusive, accepting and diverse communities at its 40 locations throughout the Western U.S., and Sun Canyon Estates is no exception,” said Dan Mahoney, sales manager at Sun Canyon Estates. “The LGBT community is a vibrant and essential part of both the city of Palm Springs and Sun Canyon Estates.”
Mary Jo Ginther, director of tourism for the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism, says that the quality of life in Palm Springs makes it a great place for gays and lesbians to live and retire.
“We are an affordable resort community that has great weather, beautiful desert scenery and many activities,” Ginther said. “We have a strong LGBT community with a long history of LGBT events and community involvement. Palm Springs is a playground for those who want rest and relaxation. … It is a place where one can unwind and enjoy the weather."
“[Palm Springs] has gay bars, resorts, even a few retirement communities that are in the planning stage,” Brady said. “The best thing it has are numbers; there is a sizable enough gay population that they can feel comfortable.”
All other participants who refer three friends to purchase Santiago homes can choose from $6,000 cash or a 2011 Hyundai Blue. Santiago will award money for each of the closed escrows: $1,000 for the first closed escrow, $1,500 for the second and $3,500 for the third. At the close of all three escrows, participants can choose to take the $6,000 cash sum or the new Hyundai Blue.
There are also incentives for Santiago homebuyers. Santiago Communities offers an extra incentive to buyers by matching their tax return to help buyers meet their down payment requirements. Santiago is also offering a discount on rental space in the LGBT-friendly Sun Canyon Estates community. Space rentals usually cost $350 per month. The discount lowers the cost of the first year’s space rental to $150 per month and to $250 per month for the second year’s rental.
“Palm Springs has been a favorite destination for the LGBT traveler,” Ginther said. “When visiting, one of the favorite activities to do is to search for a home to purchase as a vacation home and then eventually make it their permanent residence. Palm Springs is like no place else.”
