KCET and Union Bank are looking for outstanding men and women of the LGBT community who are providing great leadership and making significant contributions to improve and enrich the lives of others.
In 1998, as part of KCET’s ongoing commitment to diversity, the station created annual Hero of the Year Awards in celebration of national commemorative heritage months. This initiative recognizes local heroes — activists, educators, community leaders and visionaries – who are doing critical work that often goes unrecognized. This month, local heroes from the LGBT community can be nominated for the honor in KCET’s first ever LGBT Pride Month.
The award honors those who have made significant contributions to their profession and community and have inspired others, as well as their commitment to community service and volunteering.
These exemplary individuals are introduced to viewers through the production and broadcast of short video profiles and will be honored at a reception and awards program to salute their accomplishments and services.
Nominees must be members of the LGBT community in Southern California who have made a significant impact to their profession and local community. The submission deadline for nominations is Wednesday, April 7, and the stories of selected heroes will air on KCET in May.
