SAN DIEGO -- Community members are invited to a celebration of the life of Sam Cuevas, to be held Monday, Jan. 23, at 6 pm at Bamboo Lounge.
Cuevas, who died Nov. 22 after battling a long illness, was a well-liked member of San Diego's LGBT community. Cuevas and his longtime partner Chris Walsh were well-known for the popular Hillcrest restaurants they had opened, including Cafe W and BITE.
Born in the East Bay area of Northern California, Cuevas moved to San Diego in 1998 to live with Walsh, after the two had met at the San Francisco LGBT Pride celebration.
Cuevas' family held services in Hayward, Calif., last month, where he was buried. Walsh is organizing the celebration of life so that Cuevas' San Diego friends who were not able to attend the services will be able to come together to honor his life.
Food will be provided at the event, and a cash bar will be available.
Bamboo Lounge is located at 1475 University Ave. in Hillcrest.
