SAN DIEGO -- As San Diego LGBT Pride weekend approaches, the organization that produces the weekend parade and festival will produce a number of official Pride parties, the only such events that will generate revenue for Pride's philanthropy programs.
San Diego Pride has handed out more than $1.4 million to local LGBT community organizations and causes over the last several years, and says that these events will help it be able to continue giving back.
“For years, private, for-profit party promoters have taken advantage of the San Diego Pride name to make money off our community," said Dwayne Crenshaw, executive director of San Diego LGBT Pride.
"This year we want to make sure folks know about and attend those fun events and parties, which help non-profit causes in our community. By supporting these events, you can party with a purpose!”
Events begin next week and will be held at various venues throughout San Diego:
All in Pride Celebration: Tuesday, June 26, 6:30 pm to midnight at the W Hotel, 421 W B St. Pride will honor this year’s Spirit of Stonewall honorees with an awards reception, followed by the finale of our Voice of America’s Pride competition, and end with a dance party.
