Urban Corps to plant 500 trees before summer

SAN DIEGO -- Urban Corps of San Diego County is committed to planting 500 street trees by the end of June in an effort to beat the heat of summer and revitalize interest in supporting the local urban forestry movement.

"Trees are one of the City's most important resources, yet we are risk of losing funding for tree planting here in San Diego," said Sam Lopez, Urban Corps director of operations.

Hillcrest Town Council sets agenda for Tuesday meeting

SAN DIEGO -- The next meeting of the Hillcrest Town Council (HTC), to be held at 6:30 pm Tuesday, May 8, will include presentations on a number of community issues and projects that the group has been working on.

All residents of Hillcrest -- owners and renters -- are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Seven heroes of LGBT equality honored at NCLR’s 35th anniversary celebration

SAN FRANCISCO — More than 1,500 people honored seven heroes in the movement for LGBT equality on Saturday night at the National Center for Lesbian Rights’ 35th anniversary celebration.

The sell-out event — held at the City View at Metreon — is often called the party of the year, celebrating the strides made in the LGBT movement and recognizing the trailblazers who have stood up for equality, becoming role models for millions of people in the process.

Jim Miller says he is the "complete choice" for Superior Court Judge

SAN DIEGO – As San Diegans gear up for the upcoming primary election on June 5, all eyes seem to be on the mayoral race, city council races, and hot button propositions.

There are, however, a number of other important races that will appear on the ballot, including three Superior Court Judge seats.

One such candidate is Jim Miller, who is vying for San Diego Superior Court Seat 25.

Miller, who is currently appointed as a Judge Pro Tem, is also a County Hearing Officer, and has trial experience as an attorney in criminal, civil, family, federal and state law.

Sierra Leone bishop calls for unity with LGBT United Methodists

TAMPA, Fla. -- A bishop from Sierra Leone preached that the love of God binds us together much stronger than divisions of race, sexual orientation, or even family affiliation.

Bishop John Yambasu, Resident United Methodist Bishop to Sierra Leone, spoke at the Africana Dinner at the United Methodist Church General Conference on Sunday evening. The dinner was sponsored by Black Methodists for Church Renewal, a coalition partner with the Love Your Neighbor Campaign.
