Fruit Fly in the City: Notching the bedpost

I never pretend to be innocent. I may be naïve in some situations when it comes to the gayborhood but I’m certainly not innocent.

However, after a discussion with one of my favorite woodles (woman poodles), I discovered that my “not so innocent” meter just moved another dial towards scandalous.

AUNT JOHNNY: Betty White throws a surprise birthday party full of surprises

I'm not big on celebrating my birthday.

Not because I have a problem getting older. That doesn't bother me at all. I stopped aging 15 years ago when I started pumping my face full of enough Botox to paralyze a hippo ... and whenever something starts to sag, I simply have it removed, lifted, reshaped or replaced.

So at any given time, at least 85 percent of my body is showroom new anyway, or at the very least previously owned with low mileage. In fact, I'm pretty sure my left ear used to belong to Mary Tyler Moore.

Street Smarts: Gay comic book characters mirror traditional American life

Remember those good old days when you couldn’t wait for mom or dad to hand you over the comic section of your local newspaper?

Fruit Fly in the City: The gayborhood is to Harry Potter as Harry Potter is to the gayborhood

On the way back from the store, I was doing a bit of casual reading through an LBGT magazine when I noticed the acronym “LBGTQ.”

I found this very interesting since I thought I was starting to get it all down. So, I decided to ask my Obi Wan Kenobi, Donny Banana, what’s with the “Q” at the end of the acronym?

Hitting the town with Benny: Ways to be good, hob nob, mingle, connect and network this week

I say us gays are pretty lucky.

There is never a shortage of things to do, which keeps people like me who write these gay social-type columns in business. San Diego is no exception to this – in fact, I have been trying to find a weekend to "get away" and visit a good friend of mine in LA, but I just can’t seem to find one.

The first "gay writing" I ever did was for the now-defunct San Diego LGBT newspaper called Update! (those who have been 'around' most likely remember it).

Editor's note: Joshua Scarpuzzi, 20, joins SDGLN as a contributor of social commentary from a young person's perspective. In his first contribution, Josh shares a very personal story about the dire consequences of coming out to his parents.

Having grown up in a very strict Christian family here in San Diego, I was very fortunate to be raised on the principles of love, acceptance, forgiveness and equality; that all are created in God’s image.
