Aunt Johnny: Campaign strategies make poor nap fellows

Editor's Note: This was previously run on Oct. 18th on Aunt Johnny's Blog.

"It really isn't that embarrassing, Harry.”

I lied, caressing his arm thoughtfully to sooth his bruised ego. Then I slapped him across the face.

SAN DIEGO -- The world's leading online GLBT travel resource -- gaytravel.com -- is teaming up with a popular social media platform and the organizers of one of the most sought after gay travel weeks in the country for an exciting new promotion.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of Aspen Gay Ski Week.

The importance of Zachary Quinto

Zachary Quinto’s coming out as gay on October 16th has been seriously underplayed by the media. The blogs and news outlets have all picked up and commented on the story, but none of them seem to have fully grasped the fact that this is a seminal moment in Hollywood and gay history. For the first time, a major movie star, an action hero as well as a romantic leading man, has admitted his homosexuality.

Small businesses don't mind costs of committing to LGBT equality

According to the Center for American Progress (CAP) this week, the majority of small business owners support full equality and offer whatever they can in equal benefits and programs to their LGBT employees.

The results of a nationwide poll show that most small business owners support the Employee Non-discrimination Act (ENDA), which outlaws employment discrimination against gay and transgender workers; most already prohibit discrimination on this basis, and respondents reported zero costs associated with their inclusive non-discrimination policies.

Editor's Note: After a short haitus, Aunt Johnny returns with his ever-hilarious personal take on the current celebrity -- and even political -- social scene. This column was previously posted on his auntjohnny.com as "Experimenting in college with Michelle Bachmann while Betty White proves she's still hot."

QueerVentures: Finally -- gay movie worth seeing – “Weekend”

Having heard great things about the film "Weekend," I took a friend to the International Film Center (IFC) here in NYC to see it. Of course, like most films in the "gay genre," I had limited expectations.

As I entered the IFC, however, the theatre was already packed with gay men. I started to become more hopeful.

Ninety minutes or so later – the movie ended; and NO one moved from their chairs. An entire audience had been left silent in front of a black, blank screen. On the way out, not a single negative reaction was overheard.

The Blogoweet: Can the use of "fag" and "sodomite" ever be satirical? CityBeat thinks so!

(Editor’s note: The Blogoweet is a social media column where commentary will focus on the blogosphere and twitterscape as topics within in it may interest, apply to, or affect, the LGBT community.)

In my last column, I focused on a blog post by a straight, married, father of three in North Carolina.

The Blogoweet: One straight man's blog on same-sex marriage could change the world, one state at a time

Editor's Note: San Diego Gay & Lesbian News is launching a new social media column -- Blogoweet -- where commentary will focus on the blogosphere and twitterscape as it may interest, apply to, or affect, the LGBT community. Assistant Editor Morgan M. Hurley has decided to kick-off the column by sharing a passionate blog post today, and the man behind it -- trident supporter of LGBT rights, ally Eric Shepherd.
