This popular mobile application uses the catch phrase "Meet guys near you," and it means it, literally!

VIDEO: Local woman to give back to her beloved gays with "Hot Mess" event at Rich's, to benefit AVRC

SAN DIEGO – Hillcrest is going to be a hot mess on Friday night if everything goes as planned.

To celebrate her birthday, El Cajon resident and friend of the LGBT community Cali Griebel will be throwing a huge bash at Rich’s nightclub to raise funds for UCSD’s HIV programs.

The event, which will be called “Hot Mess,” will be a celebration of everything tacky, gaudy, over the top, experimental, and neon about 1980’s fashion.

Hitting the town with Benny: Communities that rally together grow together

It was most emotional to see our community come together this past Tuesday at the San Diego Remembers Matthew Shepard Rally & Vigil.

Over 400 people turned out for the candle-lit procession and ceremony, to stand up against all forms of hate, bullying and harassment. It is in these moments that I am proud to be a part of the GLBT community and proud to be me.

Pop Op: Time to get serious?

A year ago, I got a phone call from a new start-up news website called San Diego Gay & Lesbian News (SDGLN.com), asking me to do something rather unexpected; write a column about anything I wanted.

A blank ticket like that is not something you get very often and I set out to write about single life and the ups and downs of dating. Truth be told, it ended up having very little to do with being single and a lot more to do with being in a relationship.

Hitting the town with Benny: Sexy ghosts, Gaga, galas and gossip!

Today, being October 1, starts another “countdown” for several of my gay friends. With Halloween now being 30 days away, many gays see this as another reason to go back to the gym, since “less is more” Halloween costumes have become sort of the trend.

Slutty angels, sexy Peter Pans, superheroes with big bulges, and so many other scantily-clad versions of the traditional Halloween costume are part of what makes Hillcrest the greatest place in town to celebrate Halloween. But we will talk more about Halloween in a couple of weeks.

Life with Benny: Harassment of LGBT youth must stop

As I was scouring through “gay” news this morning looking for news tips to post in SDGLN’s "Causes" section, I came across two more heartbreaking stories of very young gay teenagers who have recently committed suicide, most likely as a result of anti-gay harassment.

I did not plan on writing about this topic in this week’s column, but I found myself practically lifeless at my desk, reading these articles with sadness, anger and a sense of wanting to wrap my arms around all LGBT youth and protect them for the big, bad world that we live in.

Hitting the town with Benny: Comedy, nudity, football, fireworks, walking & dragging for AIDs, politics and film

This is an awkward time of year – it is officially "autumn" as of yesterday, but this weekend is supposed to have summerlike temperatures. I want to put out my pumpkin spice and cranberry scented candles but it just doesn’t seem to mesh with 80 degree temperatures outside.

Certainly, this summer in San Diego was no normal summer by any weather standards – they say it was one of the coldest since 1933. But then again, being a native San Diegan, I should know better than anyone else that weather here has always been schizophrenic.
