U-T San Diego: Irwin Jacobs endorses DeMaio

SAN DIEGO -- One of San Diego’s most influential Democrats — Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs — has endorsed Republican City Councilman Carl DeMaio for mayor, according to the DeMaio campaign.

DeMaio, who is running against Democratic Rep. Bob Filner in the Nov. 6 election, has repeatedly said on the campaign trail that he is building a broad-based coalition of Democrats, Republicans and independents that support his candidacy. Up until now, he hasn’t had a high-profile Democrat in the fold to back up that campaign theme.

Volunteers needed to register "Equality Voters" at San Diego Pride Parade

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego LGBT Community Center and San Diego LGBT Pride are teaming up to make sure that as many Equality Voters as possible are registered to vote during the setup for the Pride Parade on Saturday, July 21.

Volunteers are needed to help with this, and free passes to the pride festival will be given to everyone who completes a shift.

Participants will be required to attend a brief training session in July. Those who have prior experience with voter registration or canvassing work, should consider becoming a Team Captain, who will be in charge of their own team.
