HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Two movies that pay tribute to cinema’s early days scored the most Oscar nominations this morning.

Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo” led the way with 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

“The Artist,” a black-and-white silent movie, racked up 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. The low-budget film hasn’t had a wide audience yet, so the slew of nominations should give it a boost at the box office.
