COMMUNITY PROFILE: Courtney Ware

Courtney Ware signed up to volunteer for San Diego Pride last summer, and fell in love with the community. Initially, her goal was to meet new people, but the 27-year old became so passionate about the fight for equality that she now finds herself involved with half a dozen community organizations.

Originally from Santa Clarita, California, Ware has been married to her husband Gary for nearly four years, although the couple has been together for 10 years.

The Blogoweet: Facing our fears and laughing at public foibles

(Editor’s note: The Blogoweet is a social media column where commentary will focus on the blogosphere and twitterscape as topics within in it may interest, apply to, or affect, the LGBT community.)

I began this column back in September, planning it to be a fun and regular analysis and/or summation of the perks and quirks of Social Media.

Not all that surprisingly, it got hijacked early on by my own social commentary, which can and still will happen on occasion.

Both of those first two columns took off like a wildfire, each with lives of their own.

NOH8 Campaign returns to San Diego this weekend

SAN DIEGO -- This weekend, celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley will return to San Diego for an open shoot, allowing local residents the opportunity to join their popular NOH8 Campaign.

In February of 2009, still reeling after the November 2008 passing of Proposition 8, which took away marriage rights to same-sex partners in California, Bouska and Parshley knew they wanted to do something.

They got together with some close friends and came up with what they called a “photographic silent protest.”

NOH8 Campaign celebrates three years at West Hollywood party

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- The NOH8 campaign recently celebrated its third anniversary with a star-studded party at the House of Blues on Sunset.

The NOH8 campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8 in November 2008. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest.

Six-packs and kitty cats: A new calendar with hunky sex-appeal

There's nothing unmanly about curling up with a beloved kitty, and a group of hunky L.A. dudes hopes to change that gender bias one rippled ab at a time, thanks to a new charity calendar.

It's called "6 Packs/9 Lives," and true to its title, the calendar allows people to spend each month with a good-looking muscleman who poses with cats while dressed (or undressed) in an outfit appropriate for that time of year.
