Jim Winsor's Out & About: DJ John Joseph is on the move

Karma continues to smile on Hillcrest DJ John Joseph. His growing popularity has gotten some nice out-of-town gigs lately, including Angel Bonilla’s WTF Military Party up at the Shark Club in Orange County this Friday, and then later next month he’s off to Hula’s in Waikiki, Hawaii (nice!), to spin their big Spring Break Blackout Underwear Party.

Women's softball World Series needs volunteers for upcoming San Diego tourney

SAN DIEGO -- The Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA) is bringing its annual World Series women's softball championship to San Diego, August 20-25, 2012 and they need some local help.

Created in 1997 with both men and women's teams, the sports non-profit split from the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAA) ten years later and took only the women players. It currently boasts 26 participating cities across the country.

Women's Softball World Series comes to San Diego in August

SAN DIEGO -- In August, an expected 75 competitive women's softball teams are expected to descend upon San Diego when the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA) holds its annual Softball World Series here.

Called "San Diego Happens: ASANA 2012," the yearly championship tournament will take place August 21-25, 2012.

Inferno dances prepare to spread like Wildfire in April

SAN DIEGO -- This Saturday, April 7, 2012 the dances that have been heating up San Diego's women's community for the last few years are back again with a new spin on their previous Hot Flash and Inferno dances and it is spreading …

Wildfire! A Hot Flash Production kicks off in April with two -- believe it -- two dances to get you out of your houses and onto the dance floor.

Now labeled "a dance for queer women and our allies," this all women's dance is very inclusive.

LGBT Sports Profile: Seth Silvernail

This week's LGBT Sports Profile is Seth Silvernail, who enjoys sports so much he spends a lot of time running around and keeping busy with two organized sports leagues in San Diego.

Originally from Petaluma, Calif., Seth has lived in San Diego for 12 years. He is currently single and resides in the University Heights neighborhood.

San Diego artist and sports enthusiast Rafael Acosta dies at age 50

SAN DIEGO -- A much beloved member of the community, Rafael Acosta, died last Sunday after an acute illness took over his system. It was his 50th birthday.

Acosta had been sick with flu-like symptoms for several weeks, and many friends were unaware how serious his condition was until Sunday morning, when his family called, gathering them to his bedside at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.

Ed Johnson, a close friend who played softball and team-traveled with Acosta for over 20 years, described his sudden death as "shocking."

UPDATED: AFCSL announces Spring season clinic changes

SAN DIEGO -- America's Finest City Softball League (AFCSL) have announced changes to the dates and times of their Spring 2012 season softball clinics.

Clinics are a requirement for any new players to the AFCSL or someone who has not played with the league since 2010.

All clinics are free and will be held at the North Park Recreation Center's Ted Williams Field, located on Idaho between Lincoln Ave and Polk Street, just two blocks south of El Cajon Blvd, behind the infamous green water tower.
