"What's right is right:" Widowed lesbian pushes for equal military benefits

Lesbian soldier killed in Taliban suicide bomber attack in Afghanistan

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Donna R. Johnson of the North Carolina Army National Guard was among 14 people killed Monday when a Taliban suicide bomber rammed a motorcycle packed with explosives into a joint U.S.-Afghan patrol in eastern Afghanistan.

Johnson, of Raeford, N.C., who was lesbian, is survived by her spouse Tracy Dice, according to a statement by Lt. Col. Robert Carver of the North Carolina National Guard.

Coalition of community groups to protest U.S. military involvement Saturday

SAN DIEGO -- A large coalition of local organizations have signed on to endorse and participate in a peace rally this Saturday to protest the United States military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The event, titled END THE WARS!: The REAL Threat to the Economy, will be held from noon to 3:30 pm at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Grape Street near Balboa Park.
