Man pleads guilty to animal abuse for shooting neighbor’s dog

SAN DIEGO —Fallbrook resident, Michael O’Brien has pleaded guilty to 597(a) felony charges of animal abuse for shooting his neighbor’s dog in the leg.

The 9-month-old Siberian husky named Gunner had to have a leg amputated, but he is home and doing well today. The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA immediately filed animal cruelty charges against O’Brien for the shooting.

O’Brien will receive three years of probation, must pay $4,400 in restitution and is not allowed to own an animal for three years.

30 animals seized from Lemon Grove pet store

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement served a search warrant at Dave’s Family Feed Store in Lemon Grove on Wednesday after receiving complaints that the store had allegedly closed for business and several animals were left inside.

More than 30 animals were seized from Dave’s Family Feed Store, 16 birds, 11 chickens, rodents, reptiles and a python snake. The animals will receive full veterinary exams and care at the San Diego Humane Society, and will remain in its care until the case is reviewed for possible prosecution.

Seized pets in animal cruelty case are ready for adoption

SAN DIEGO -- More than 60 animals including dogs, birds and rabbits, seized during raids on several pet stores in March, will be available for adoption this weekend.

San Diego Humane Society and SPCA will host a special adoption event from 11 am to 5 pm Saturday, July 14, at its Gaines Campus, 5500 Gaines St. in San Diego.

Man accused of abuse after 117 animals seized from San Diego County pet stores

SAN DIEGO — El Cajon resident Johnson Le was arrested today after 130 animals were seized in March from two pet stores in San Diego and Le’s private residence in El Cajon.

Le is being charged with four felony counts of 597 (b) P.C. animal abuse, 10 misdemeanor counts of 597 (b) P.C. animal abuse and more than a dozen violations of the California Health and Safety Code. He is currently being held on $50,000 bail.
