Gay magazine editor viciously assaulted in South London

LONDON -- The editor of an online gay and lesbian magazine was attacked Saturday night in South London.

Christopher Bryant, editor of Polari magazine, and his partner Damon were walking home from Bryant’s birthday dinner through South London’s Betts Park when the couple was intercepted by a group of six men, who started speeding up and following the couple down the path.

Bryant told GSN that as soon as they started running, the men started running as well, and first caught his partner Damon.

He told GSN: "It all went down so fast."

UPDATED: Fatal shooting of 32-year-old man called anti-gay hate crime

NEW YORK -- Police in Manhattan are investigating the overnight murder of a 32-year-old man in Greenwich Village as an anti-gay hate crime.

The suspect arrested at the scene around midnight Saturday has been accused of hurling anti-gay slurs at the victim, who was walking down Sixth Avenue with a friend when several other men accosted them.

Witnesses told police that the suspect hounded the victim, calling him a "faggot," saying he looked like a "gay wrestler" and making other slurs. The suspect then asked the men: "Do you want to die here?"

EU LGBT survey: Poll on homophobia sparks concern

A quarter of gay people surveyed in a major EU poll say they have been subjected to attacks or violent threats in the past five years.

Poorer and younger respondents were more likely to face discrimination due to their sexuality, the survey found.

Some 93,000 people in the EU and Croatia were polled in the EU's first survey on this scale.

Gay rights campaigners welcomed the report but called for stronger legal action by Brussels to tackle the issue.

Young gay men face violence, lack housing and access to HIV services, global survey finds

A new study indicates that young men who have sex with men (YMSM) around the world experience higher levels of homophobia, unstable housing, violence and other factors that hinder access to HIV services, compared to older MSM.

Conducted by the Global Forum on MSM & HIV (MSMGF), the analysis shows YMSM fare worse than older MSM in their attempts to access numerous HIV services, including HIV treatment.

“Existing data indicates that rates of HIV are rapidly increasing among YMSM in low and high income countries alike,” said Dr. George Ayala, MSMGF executive director.

Paris gay couple say they were beaten amid rise in homophobic attacks

PARIS — A gay couple in Paris said they were attacked and beaten on Saturday for walking arm-in-arm in what LGBT advocates in the country say is indicative of a rise in anti-gay attacks in France since Parliament began debating a measure that would legalize same-sex marriage.

Former Swedish MP: I was gay-bashed on vacation in Greece

ATHENS, Greece – Swedish actor and former MP Tasso Stafilidis tells a Swedish newspaper that he and a friend were gay-bashed while on vacation in Greece.

Cameroon enforces harsh anti-homosexuality laws | VIDEO

Cameroon prosecutes people for consensual same-sex conduct more aggressively than almost any country in the world, four human rights organizations said in a report released last week.

The organizations – Alternatives-Cameroun, Association for the Defense of Gays and Lesbians (ADEFHO), the Cameroonian Foundation for AIDS (CAMFAIDS), and Human Rights Watch – found that at least 28 people have been prosecuted for same-sex conduct in Cameroon since 2010.
