Australian Football League launches major anti-homophobia drive

The Australian Football League (AFL) has “declared war” on homophobia in a new initiative.

League chief Andrew Demetriou, Olympic flag bearer Lauren Jackson and Collingwood president Eddie McGuire will lead the campaign to change attitudes towards LGBT people in sport and the workplace.

The campaign will begin in the wake of a homophobic slur recently made by Stephen Milne – who plays for St Kilda’s - against Harry O’Brien of Collingwood Magpies.

Google launches global bid to "Legalize Love" for gays living in homophobic countries

Google is launching a new campaign calling on countries to "Legalize Love" – making it legal to be lesbian, gay or bisexual around the world.

The campaign, which will officially launch today (July 7), is likely to start by focusing on Poland and Singapore but eventually spread to every country where Google has an office around the world.

It will tackle places where it is illegal to be gay, or where there are other anti-gay laws or where the culture is homophobic.

Sexy soccer ad against homophobia goes viral

BERLIN, Germany -- A 6-year-old print ad, featuring two German soccer players kissing after a game, has been dusted off and gone viral on the Internet just in time for the Euro 2012 football championship.

The ad asks, in German and English, "Would you beat up your favorite player for this?"

The sexy ad was designed by Maneo of Berlin as a way to combat homophobia in sports. Sports leaders in many western European countries are actively trying to educate fans on the pitfalls of homophobia.

In two of the countries most identified internationally with homophobic hatred and violence, LGBT activists have launched campaigns.

Jamaica Forum of Lesbians All Sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG) had the support 28 July of the United States Ambassador to Jamaica, Pamela E. Bridgewater, as it launched ‘Unconditional Love’, a public service announcement (PSA) featuring Christine Straw, former Miss Jamaica World and Miss Jamaica Universe, and her gay brother Matthew Straw.

NEW YORK – Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, one of Uganda’s leading voices fighting homophobia in Africa, spoke today at the United Nations.

Bishop Christopher called for global decriminalization of homosexuality as a necessary strategy to deal with new dimensions of the AIDS epidemic.

UK's Sheffield Eagles rugby club to don anti-homophobia shirts this weekend

SHEFFIELD, England -- Sheffield Eagles have received high profile support from the most famous homosexual stars in world sport including former NBA Star John Amaechi, Rugby League stars Ian Roberts and Gareth Thomas and English cricketer Steven Davies as they become the first ever sports club in the UK to wear a shirt brandishing an anti-homophobia slogan this weekend.
