LGBT celebrities tout Obama's achievements for gay community

Some of America's most visible LGBT celebrities are speaking out in a new campaign video in support of President Barack Obama's re-election efforts.

Jane Lynch ("Glee"), Jesse Tyler Ferguson ("Modern Family"), Zachary Quinto ("American Horror Story"), George Takei ("Star Trek"), Chaz Bono, comic Wanda Sykes and tennis great Billie Jean King appear in the video titled "Obama Pride: LGBT Americans for Obama."

San Diego Democrats set debate viewing party at Bamboo Lounge

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Democrats for Equality and the San Diego County Young Democrats invite supporters to join them for a presidential debate viewing party tonight in Hillcrest.

The Democrats will beet from 6 to 7:30 pm tonight at Bamboo Lounge, 1475 University Ave., San Diego, CA 92103

Tonight is the second presidential debate between President Barack Obama and the Republican challenger Mitt Romney. The debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which citizens will ask questions of the candidates on foreign and domestic issues.

Florida Log Cabin Republicans exploit death of U.S. Ambassador in political ad

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A political advertisement in the current issue of the Florida Agenda, an LGBT weekly newspaper distributed throughout central and south Florida, and paid for by the Broward (County) Log Cabin Republicans of Florida, attacked Democrats and President Barack Obama — using an image of the lifeless body of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens in the aftermath of last month’s attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya.

My official election ballot arrived in the mail on Tuesday, and I was as excited as always to exercise my right to vote.

I’ve voted in every single presidential election since I became eligible to vote, and my streak will continue this year when I mail back my ballot today.

"Stomp" star Carlos Thomas: "I love this job and this family"

Carlos Thomas does it all: drummer, percussionist, dancer, performer and music producer.

He got the performing bug while playing music in church in the small town of Sockis, N.Y., and he was hooked. Then in the 1990s, he landed a gig in the smash hit "Stomp" ... a role he has kept ever since.

San Diego area theater lovers can catch Thomas in the touring production of "Stomp" that will be staged Friday and Saturday at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

Roberta Achtenberg, born July 20, 1950, serves as a commissioner of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. She is the first openly gay presidential appointee confirmed by the Senate.

SDGLN Poll: Supermajority of readers will watch presidential debates

SAN DIEGO – A majority of the readers of San Diego Gay & Lesbian News who took our poll say they plan to watch the presidential debates this month.

Our poll question was: Will you watch the presidential debates in October?

The results, which are not scientific, reveal that 69% of readers will watch the presidential debates between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, while 31% will not. The debates will be on Oct. 3, 16 and 22.
