SATURDAY: The Glitteratti to raise money for Being Alive San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- The Glitteratti – a group of five philanthropic friends in San Diego who have joined hands to bring a little sparkle into the lives of those in need – invite community members to help make a difference in the lives of San Diegans living with HIV/AIDS at a fundraiser for Being Alive on Saturday, May 25.

Being Alive accepting recyclables to raise money for services

SAN DIEGO -- Being Alive HIV/AIDS Services is "going green" with the collection of plastic bottles and cans to support the agency's Daniel’s Pantry program that feeds the clients every month.

More than 400 people use the Pantry each month for canned goods, rice, fresh fruits and vegetables and some frozen meat.

Donation bins for recyclables have been placed at local businesses or they can be dropped off at Being Alive during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Being Alive seeks volunteers

SAN DIEGO -- Being Alive San Diego is looking for people to volunteer in the many programs and services its provide to people living with HIV/AIDS in San Diego.

The organization's mission is to deliver quality and compassionate services to people affected by HIV/AIDS and to provide education to those in need.

Formed by six HIV-positive individuals in 1989 to address the need for “peer driven” support and services, Being Alive today is the longest running AIDS service organization in San Diego, serving more that 10,000 individuals every year.

Being Alive to host yard sale fundraiser

SAN DIEGO -- Being Alive San Diego will hold an enormous yard sale on Saturday, March 16, from 8 am to 1 pm at their Hillcrest office.

The yard sale will include donated items from clients and people in the community.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Being Alive’s Food Bank, called Daniel’s Pantry. With more than 350 clients each month, the monetary need is very high. Being Alive strives to ensure that none of its clients go hungry during the month.

San Diego Pride to help 2012 grantees increase their funding

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Pride is hoping that community members will help double the grant funds that it distributed to 14 community organizations last week.

After a successful 2012 pride season, the organization was able to grant $28,000 to the organizations, bringing Pride's community giving total to over $85,000 for the year.

Being Alive to host fundraiser yard sale

SAN DIEGO -- Being Alive San Diego will hold an enormous yard sale of items donated by clients and community members on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 am to 1 pm.

The event will take place outside of the organizations offices, located at 4070 Centre St.

Being Alive San Diego seeks volunteers

SAN DIEGO -- Being Alive is in need of volunteers in different capacities.

Anyone interested can go to Being Alive, 4070 Centre St, in Hillcrest and fill out an application.

Volunteers are needed in the Helping Hands Moving Services area. The agency provides free moving services to clients facing eviction, and assists them in finding affordable housing or sign up for rental subsidies. Being Alive also provides all the necessary supplies to complete the move prior to becoming homeless and disrupting medical care.

Being Alive to offer free HIV testing

SAN DIEGO -- Being Alive HIV/AIDS Services will conduct free HIV testing on Tuesdays at its Hillcrest office.

To sweeten the deal, the organization has teamed up with BabyCakes to offer an incentive for those who take advantage of the free testing offer.

Free HIV tests will be given on Tuesdays from 10 am to 2 pm. While appointments are preferred, walk-ins will be accepted as time allows. Those who with to make an appointment should call Being Alive at 619-291-1400.

Diving for Being Alive pool party benefit slated for Sunday

SAN DIEGO -- A pool party will be held this Sunday, Sept. 2, to benefit Being Alive, San Diego's oldest HIV/AIDS service provider.

The event, called "Diving for Being Alive," will take place from 12-4 pm at the Hillcrest estate of Mike and Billy Weiss.
