COMMENTARY: The Pit buries 150 years of homophobic atrocities

Imagine a deep dark trench, dug at the height of the European colonial age stretching further than the eye can see. Although it is present in many countries, it still lies dangerously open in 76 countries.

Bishop Christopher’s Compass to Compassion tour stops in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, who arrives in San Diego on Wednesday, Aug. 17, spoke passionately at the Edinburgh Festival for Spirituality and Peace over the weekend urging the Scottish, UK and European governments to do all things necessary to bring about an end to criminalizing homosexuality worldwide.

Over half the 76 countries that currently send people to jail or execute LGBT people are members of the British Commonwealth, so British influence and leadership on this issue is vital.

ACTION ALERT: UK officials urged to halt Thursday deportation of gay Ugandan Robert Segwanyi

LONDON, UK -- In less than 24 hours, more than 1,000 people have joined a petition campaign started on Change.org calling on the Home Office to halt the deportation of Robert Segwanyi to Uganda, where he was imprisoned and tortured for being gay.

Segwanyi is scheduled for deportation on Thursday, Aug. 18, on Kenya Airways KQ410, which leaves Heathrow Airport at 8 pm local time.

Bishop Christopher to update San Diegans on plight of Uganda's LGBT community

SAN DIEGO – LGBT and human-rights activist Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, known as the Desmond Tutu of Uganda, will return to San Diego next month to update his supporters on the dire conditions in his homophobic homeland.

The bishop and his wife, Mary Senyonjo, will be in America’s Finest City from Aug. 19 through Aug. 27 to kick off a tour of the U.S.

Bishop Christopher will preach at 8 and 10:30 am services on Sunday, Aug. 21, at St. Paul’s Cathedral. He will also participate in the church’s Sunday Forum at 9 am.
