Boot~ique: How to stay motivated in the winter

It's that time of year where it's dark early (5:30 pm early) and colder outside.

It's the time of year where all you want to do is come home from work, relax, eat some comfort food, curl up next to a fire or under a blanket and ease into your night.

Certainly working out doesn't sound very appealing when it's cold and dark outside.

How can anyone stay motivated to exercise in such conditions?

True, it's a bit more difficult to keep motivated in the wintertime, but it's definitely not impossible.

One key tip is to create a playlist.

Boot~ique: Four short-cuts to avoid holiday weight gain

The holidays bring about a hectic season of shopping, socializing, celebrating and eating!

Time spent with family and friends usually turns into extra large meals, extravagant desserts and more than a couple of drinks.

But … you don’t have to give up on your quest to be fit and fabulous just because you hear Christmas jingles everywhere.

Here are four quick and easy short cuts to enjoy your holidays without losing your fitness goals.

1. Do Not save calories for a big dinner

Boot~ique with VIDEO: Keep fit and dance to give back at Thanksgiving

The holidays have officially arrived! There are so many things to enjoy and appreciate during the holidays, but I bet you're thinking about Thanksgiving dinner, right?

To help you avoid over-eating this great meal, start your day off right.

After a good night's sleep, enjoy a healthy, protein and fiber-rich breakfast!

Remember, it's not helpful to starve yourself all day, just so you can eat more at night. Continue to eat well throughout the day so you are not overly hungry when the Thanksgiving meal hits the table.

Boot~ique: Spice up your breakfast

Since we were young, it has been constantly pounded into our brains that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Then why is it so easy for some of us to skip it?

Between getting the kids to school, preparing for work, finding time for you to get ready, and all of the other morning mumble-jumble things that need to be taken care of, breakfast is just one of the last things that is on your mind, especially if you really haven’t found that "gotta have" breakfast meal.

Boot~ique with VIDEO: Total body tone-up

You can maximize your workout by doing a small group of exercises, back to back in a circuit with very little rest.

You will save time and burn more calories to give your body that fit, lean, fabulous look you desire.

For this workout, each circuit is just five minutes.

You'll do five exercises in a row, targeting your major muscle groups for a total body workout. We recommend working up to doing this circuit four times in a row - just take a 30 second rest between circuits.

Boot~ique: Halloween can be full of scary temptations

Halloween is a scary holiday for people trying to lose weight. All that 'bite-sized' candy, those crazy parties loaded with drinks and sweets and workplace candy dishes filled the brim with colorful little diet destroyers.

So, what can you do? Hide? Take a week off work and spend it in the gym instead? Put a "no trick-or-treat" sign on your door?

Luckily, you don't need to go to those extreme lengths in order to resist the urge to splurge on Halloween treats -- but you do need to have a plan to help you say "No" to all the goodies that will be lurking as Halloween approaches.
