THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE

SAN DIEGO -- LGBT community members and other supporters of Carl DeMaio's campaign for the 52nd Congressional District seat are invited to a summer pool party at the home of Drew Auker and Arlon Jay Staggs on Sunday, June 23 from 1-3 pm.

There is no donation required to attend the afternoon of sun and fun, organizers just want to give LGBT community members the opportunity to meet DeMaio and learn more about his campaign.

Congressional District 52 survey: DeMaio's being gay and support of SSM not an issue with district's GOP voters

(This post was written by Jon Fleischman of FlashReport.org and was originally posted HERE. It is noteworthy that this poll used a "gay baiting" question, and the issue did not make much difference among poll-takers.)

DeMaio's Republican Party evolution

A lot has been written about Carl DeMaio as a candidate and as a gay Republican, and I wanted to take some time to speak to DeMaio about how he perceives himself fitting in with both the LGBT community and the Republican Party.

While this email interview was conduced before DeMaio announced May 31 he was running against Rep. Scott Peters for the 52nd Congressional district, I asked him questions about his perceptions of a community he is at once a member of – and, by some, excluded – that continue to be relevant.

COMMENTARY | Carl DeMaio: Our modern LGBT role model

(Editor's note: Susan Jester is currently the head of the Log Cabin Republicans of San Diego County and is the founder of what is now AIDS Walk San Diego.)

When I returned to San Diego after a 20 year stint on the East Coast, I had never heard of Carl DeMaio. It was early 2011 and I came back to town to care for my elderly mother who is in the end stage of Alzheimer’s. After a 30 year career in politics, LGBT activism and fundraising, full time caregiving put me on the sidelines during 2012.

Carl DeMaio: This next-generation Republican's socially liberal stance will save the GOP

Former San Diego councilman and mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio Thursday formally announced his candidacy for the 2014 race in the state's 52nd Congressional District.

"I see myself as a 'new generation Republican' who wants to challenge the party to focus on pocket-book, economic and quality of life issues in a more positive and inclusive way, rather than issues that are, frankly, none of the government's business in the first place," DeMaio said in a campaign news release.

Carl DeMaio to run for congressional seat held by Rep. Scott Peters

SAN DIEGO -- Former San Diego City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio today announced his candidacy for a local congressional seat. DeMaio seeks to unseat freshman Congressman Scott Peters (D-San Diego) in the 52nd Congressional District in the 2014 race.

A native of Orange County in California, DeMaio served one term on the San Diego City Council from 2008 to 2011 before running for San Diego's mayor last year. Democrat Bob Filner beat Republican DeMaio in a runoff.

DeMaio said he hopes that voters will focus on the important economic issues facing the nation.

GOP tests gay candidate as "new generation Republican" in poll #CA52

A new GOP poll tested former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio, an openly gay Republican and potential congressional candidate, as a “new generation Republican” in the highly competitive 52nd District.

DeMaio, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor last year, posted solid favorable ratings. He led freshman Rep. Scott Peters, D-Calif., in a hypothetical general-election matchup.

COMMENTARY: Politicians seek to "double dip" at City Hall

City politicians already have voted themselves the richest pension benefits of any city employees, but under a new proposal by Mayor Bob Filner, city politicians will have even more to look forward to once they leave office.

Mayor Filner is asking the City Council to pass an extraordinary law this month to allow former city politicians to "Double Dip" by collecting full city pensions while being eligible to be rehired by the city with full salaries simultaneously.

San Diego Log Cabin Republicans to "reboot"

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Log Cabin Republicans is under new management and is inviting community members to come to its next meeting to help "reboot" the club.
