San Diegans react to Tuesday's primary election

SAN DIEGO – As the results of Tuesday’s California primary election settle, San Diegans expressed a number of feelings about the future of America's Finest City – depending on how the candidates of their choice faired.

While some races were settled outright because the candidate ran unopposed or received more than 50.1% of the total vote count, other races, including the San Diego mayoral contest, will be duked out in November at the general election.

Just a few short weeks ago supporters of equality rejoiced at the passage of a landmark piece of legislation - the FAIR Education ACT (SB48), a law that put California on the map for taking a bold step forward to ensure that all students are provided the opportunity to learn about LGBT history and the contributions of LGBT people.

Now, opponents are working overtime to repeal SB48 and we need your help to make sure they are not successful!

Meet The Center's newest staffers, find out their goals for their new jobs

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego LGBT Community Center recently hired two new staff members to fill vacancies in key positions within the organization. Denise Serrano began work as coordinator of public affairs in early May, and Christopher Mills was recently selected as major gifts officer.

These positions became available following the departures of Carlos Marquez and Jeff Wergeles, who left The Center for new professional opportunities.

BREAKING NEWS: San Diego Republican Party challenges Carlos Marquez's position on Redistricting Commission

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Republican Party Chairman Tony Krvaric announced today that he plans to call on Carlos Marquez to resign from his post from the City of San Diego Redistricting Commission at the commission hearing this afternoon.

Krvaric says he is doing this in light of concerns about Marquez' residency and accusations of partisan leanings.

Marquez, who moved to San Diego to attend San Diego State University in 2003, recently left his job at The San Diego LGBT Community Center in Hillcrest to accept a position at the Los Angeles-based Honor Fund.

Carlos Marquez accepts Executive Director position at Los Angeles-based Honor Fund

SAN DIEGO -- Carlos Marquez, Director of Public Affairs at The San Diego LGBT Community Center, will step down from this role next month to accept a position as the Executive Director of the Honor Fund.

Honor Fund is a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating increased dialogue and collaboration between the Latino and LGBT communities in an effort to better align their shared aspirations and policy objectives.
