LGBT movement, enjoying rising public support and historic wins, gains financial clout

DENVER-- Following several years of declining revenue, LGBT social justice organizations experienced a 17% revenue increase from 2010 to 2011, according to a new report by the Movement Advancement Project (MAP).

Organizations are reaping the benefits of improved efficiency during the belt-tightening years, with increased funding, primarily fueled by an increase in individual donations, helping secure historic victories in the 2012 election.

Pita Jungle benefits Meals-on-Wheels and San Diego seniors

SAN DIEGO – Pita Jungle will donate 10% of the proceeds from its Specials Menu to Meals-on-Wheels, effective through Dec. 31.

With items like the Curried Coconut Soup with Chickpeas or the Wood-Fired Cod Salad, Pita Jungle offers a menu to keep warm and healthy during a season that is loaded with casseroles and sweets. Meals-on-Wheels supports San Diego seniors.

HIV vaccine breakthrough?

A team of scientists at the Center for the AIDS Program of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) found that two South African women infected with HIV were able to produce antibodies that neutralized and killed 88% of known strains of the virus.

Penny Moore, one of the lead scientists of the study published on Sunday in the journal Nature Medicine, said: ‘We're hoping we can use this information to develop a vaccine that prompts the body's immune system to make broadly neutralising antibodies’.

Pita Jungle: Eat for a Cause to help Monarch School, serving students impacted by homelessness

SAN DIEGO – In a unique partnership, Hillcrest’s newest restaurant, Pita Jungle, will begin a month long fundraiser to benefit Monarch School and its children impacted by homelessness.

Beginning Thursday, June 28, through July 31, a portion of the proceeds from Pita Jungle’s “specials menu” for dining in or take-out will be offered to Monarch School.
