Immigrant family from California challenges DOMA

LOS ANGELES -- On July 12, 2012, the Center for Human Rights & Constitutional Law, the Public Law Center, the Asian Law Alliance, and the Law Offices of Manulkin & Bennett filed suit on behalf of Irma Rodriguez, a U.S. citizen, Jane DeLeon, Irma's immigrant spouse, and Martin Aranas, Jane's son, challenging application of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) to deny immigration benefits to same-sex spouses.

Irma and Jane met in 1992. They have resided together in a committed life-long relationship for 20 years. In 2008, they were lawfully married in California.
