Cartoonist fired, student newspaper apologizes for anti-gay cartoon

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona Daily Wildcat, the student-run daily newspaper at the University of Arizona, has issued an apology and fired the cartoonist after publishing an editorial cartoon that critics said advocated violence against LGBT people.

Anti-gay talk show “José Luis Sin Censura” dumped from airwaves

LOS ANGELES – The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) today announced that “José Luis Sin Censura,” produced and broadcast by Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. (LBI) on the EstrellaTV network, has been permanently removed from the broadcast schedule. NHMC and GLAAD were informed of this development in a letter from Winter Horton, LBI’s Chief Operating Officer. The show was broadcast during the daytime in over 30 markets across the country.

UPDATES: HRC, GLAAD, others disappointed that Boy Scouts will retain anti-gay policy

WASHINGTON – Leaders of the Boy Scouts of America today reaffirmed their ban on gay Scouts and leaders after conducting a secret two-year review.

The unanimous vote, by an 11-member special committee, came despite calls from several national board members who said it was time to be inclusive. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson and Ernst & Young CEO James Turley, who serve on the national board, had urged the Scouts to change the policy.

The issue will not be considered by the national board due to the committee's unanimous vote.

Former Catholic Charities board member launches petition to ask Cardinal Dolan to support LGBT youth in need

NEW YORK -- Joseph Amodeo, a former member of the executive committee of the Junior Board of Catholic Charities, today launched a Change.org petition asking Cardinal Timothy Dolan of the Archdiocese of New York, who also serves as the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, to meet with leaders from the LGBT community and homeless LGBT youth.

Bullied student to deliver 200,000 petition signatures urging MPAA to drop R-rating from “Bully” documentary | VIDEOS

LOS ANGELES -- Katy Butler, a bullied high school student from Michigan, will deliver more than 221,000 petition signatures to the Motion Picture Association of America on Wednesday, urging the MPAA to lower the rating of the anti-bullying documentary “Bully” from “R” to “PG-13.”

The documentary is the work of award-winning filmmaker Lee Hirsch and is being distributed by the Weinstein Company.

URGENT APPEAL: Friends of Allan Spyere create petition, hoping to prevent deportation

SAN DIEGO -- A petition has been created on Change.org to support Allan Spyere's case to stay in the United States. He faces an immigration hearing on Friday, Feb. 17.

The petition was created by a friend of Spyere's boyfriend, Christopher Pfeil, who said that "Allan desperately needs your urgent help to keep him from being deported to Brazil."

ACTION ALERT: Tell New Hampshire lawmakers to keep marriage equality

While the country is distracted by the New Hampshire primary, which will be on Tuesday, New Hampshire's state legislature is swiftly moving to abolish gay marriage. They could vote on the issue as soon as this Thursday.

Craig Stowell is a New Hampshire native who recently testified at the New Hampshire State House to ask the legislature not to pass HB 437, the bill that would abolish marriage equality. But Craig isn't gay -- in fact, he's a straight married Marine, and a conservative Republican.
