"Wheels for Gabby" to raise money for community member in need

SAN DIEGO -- Community members will come together on Monday, Feb. 18, at Baja Betty's for the first in a series of fundraisers to help community member Gabriela "Gabby" Rodriguez raise funds for a down payment on an accessible van.

Friends are calling the effort "Wheels for Gabby."

The fundraiser will include a raffle, door prizes, drinks, appetizers and the opportunity to support Rodriguez.

Cheli Mohamed to leave San Diego Pride staff after 20 years

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego LGBT Pride said today that Araceli "Cheli" Mohamed will be leaving her position at Pride and moving on to serve as the Corporate & Operations Manager of the California Police Athletic Federation.

"Cheli has added more to our organization and in turn to our community than most will ever realize," said Stephen Whitburn, interim general manager of San Diego LGBT Pride. "Through her 20 years of service with Pride her vision, drive and determination have inspired a generation of volunteers and community leaders."

Last call for San Diego Pride volunteer registration

SAN DIEGO -- The annual San Diego LGBT Pride celebration - "America's Pride" - is just two weeks away and volunteers are still needed to help make the event a success. As one of the largest such events in the country, the San Diego Pride organization counts on an army of volunteers to make the parade, festival and other events a reality.

Volunteers are needed in a number of areas, including:

- Safety

- Recycling

- Sales and merchandise

- Transportation and communications

- Parade staging

- Exhibitor relations

Volunteers needed for annual US Police & Fire Championships in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- Volunteers are needed for the annual United States Police & Fire Championships, to be held June 16-24 at various locations throughout San Diego County.

The event, which began in 1967 as the California Police Olympics, promotes physical fitness, camaraderie and sport within the communities of public safety personnel. Competitions are open to full time law enforcement and firefighting personnel.

Over 55 sporting events will take place this year, with nearly 5,000 competitors.

San Diego Pride expands its diversity efforts

SAN DIEGO – To take its long-standing commitment to diversity a step further, San Diego LGBT Pride recently created a Diversity Task Force to work on a number of initiatives to ensure that all communities are truly represented within the organization.

San Diego Pride to form Community Advisory Council

SAN DIEGO -- To ensure that the community has a voice in San Diego LGBT Pride, the organization is creating a Community Advisory Council.

An information session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, where those interested in participating will learn about the requirements for the selection process and commitment involved with serving on the council.
