Tax records: Chick-fil-A donations to anti-LGBT groups nearly doubled in 2011

Fast-food chain Chick-fil-A — embroiled in a controversy last year surrounding the millions of dollars it donated in 2009 and 2010 to anti-gay organizations — almost doubled it’s charitable donations to anti-gay groups in 2011, according to newly released IRS documents.

COMMENTARY: The angry, hate-filled Americans hiding behind Jesus robes

Why are people so hateful? This isn’t a rhetorical question. I’m seriously asking. Why are people so filled with hate and anger?

In the United States of America, there are millions of people who hate millions of other people based on the color of their skin, or their religion, or their politics or their gender. We hate people because they like guns, because they eat meat, and here in San Diego we hate people because they like the Oakland Raiders.

How can we hate people we don’t even know?

COMMENTARY: Chick-fil-A just wants to glorify God, at our expense

You all know that Chick-fil-A will never end their contributions to anti-gay organizations, right? You know that no matter what they may say and however they change the wording in their comments, money from the customers will continue to flow to the anti-gay Christian groups bent on saving America, right?

It’s not about the chicken or that cute little cow in their commercials; it’s about what it’s always been about – hating on the gays.

Chick-Fil-A president: We've made no "concessions" to same-sex marriage supporters

(Editor’s note: There appears to be a disconnect between the Chick-fil-A corporate office and its longtime president Dan Cathy. Over the past week, the corporate office has said the fast-food chain was rescinding its anti-gay policies, only to be followed days later by denials by its president.)

Chick-fil-A releases internal document, says donations ‘mischaracterized’ as doubts grow

CHICAGO -- Following intense skepticism after news broke late Tuesday that Chick-fil-A will no longer donate to anti-gay organizations and a new report in the The Advocate renewing concerns about its giving policies, the company has issued a document that it says “thoroughly” outlines the company’s policy. However, the statement seems to have done little to convince LGBT activists that its policies have changed.

Chick-fil-A: "We have no agenda, policy or position against anyone"

CHICAGO – Chick-fil-A has responded to a Chicago Phoenix exclusive, shared by media partner San Diego Gay & Lesbian News late Tuesday night, that reported the fast-food chain and its non-profit foundation would stop making donations to anti-gay organizations and institute a new policy mandating equal treatment to all employees and customers.

Chick-fil-A agrees to end anti-gay donations, mandates equal treatment of gays

CHICAGO -- After months of negotiations with Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno over its anti-gay positions and donations, Chick-fil-A has agreed to cease donations from its non-profit charity to anti-gay organizations and issued a company-wide internal mandate calling for the equal treatment of all employees and customers.

TODAY: Chick-fer-gAy Appreciation Day to benefit local gay causes

SAN DIEGO -- In response to the thousands of Americans who earlier this month packed up their minivans and headed to Chick-Fil-A restaurants nationwide to participate in "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day" -- a day dedicated to showing support for the company's anti-gay stances and contributions -- Urban Mo's Bar & Grill and its family of restaurants have decided to give community members the opportunity support local charities that are supportive of the LGBT community with

COMMENTARY: Living on the dark side of the rainbow

Writing about prejudice can be a challenge. I was born into a happy little privileged space. I’m basically a nice white gal, a daughter of the hegemonic norm. What the hell do I know from prejudice, right? There’s racism, homophobia, misogyny, classism, ageism, a vast spectrum of “otherisms”— the dark side of the rainbow — all of them designating certain groups of people as “other.” And I write a lot about them, 25% of my columns, I just figured out, despite my pallid skin, humdrum heteronormativity, and prissily privileged class.
