When Cole turned to see the photos, another supporter announced the latest vote tally had given her an insurmountable lead in the District 4 City Council race.

Doug Case honored by City of San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- March 13 was unlike any other day in San Diego, especially for SDSU employee, Doug Case.

“By the Council of the City of San Diego, that this Council, for and on behalf of the people of San Diego, does hereby declare March 13, 2013 to be “Doug Case Day,” announced city Councilmember Marti Emerald.

Case has been an active board member on the College Area Community Council for 27 years and has served as president for the past seven years. As of March 13, Case ended his term as president.

San Diego ends red light camera program

SAN DIEGO -- Mayor Bob Filner announced Friday that the city will be ending a controversial red light camera program.

The program charges violators up to $490 when the automated cameras catch motorists running red lights. The program contract with the city expired Thursday night and will not be renewed, Filner said.

"The state and company make money," Filner said of American Traffic Solutions, the company that contracts the cameras to the City of San Diego. "But it's a wash for us," he said.

City of San Diego seeking public input on Georgia Street Bridge retrofit

SAN DIEGO -- The City of San Diego is considering a project to retrofit the Georgia Street Bridge, which crosses over University Avenue, just east of Park Boulevard. The main purpose of this retrofit is seismically related - meaning, it's being retrofitted to better handle earthquakes.

Built in 1914, the bridge, abutments, and retaining walls are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As such, input is being sought to determine how to proceed.

KPBS: Mayor Filner re-opens door for medical marijuana collectives in San Diego | VIDEO

SAN DIEGO -- This week, Mayor Bob Filner re-opened the door to the possibility of legal medical marijuana collectives in San Diego. Speaking to the group Americans for Safe Access, the mayor said he would work to stop the city of San Diego from closing medical marijuana collectives.

As first reported by San Diego CityBeat, Goldsmith then sent Filner a letter saying that the mayor could stop him from going after the collectives in "30 seconds."

On Thursday, Filner responded by ordering the city to stop referring medical marijuana code violation cases to Goldsmith for prosecution.
