Beni Ghale, a woman in Nepal, was abandoned by her husband with no source of income and two children to care for on her own.

Rather than resort to prostitution, and with only herself to rely on, Beni began to ask local restaurants in Kathmandu for their used rice sacks. She worked hard to replicate the traditional grass baskets by making tote bags and purses from these recycled sacks.

SAN DIEGO -- Professor Henry Sanchez, known as the Tacolist.com Barefoot Eco-Runner, has just run barefoot through 14 countries.

The mathematics and environmental engineering professor from Columbia, who will be crossing from Tijuana into San Diego on Thursday, Aug. 18, is running from Argentina to Alaska to bring awareness of protecting and reforesting the planet.

Upon entering each city, Sanchez works with local community organizations to plant trees, recycle and present educational talks.

BOGOTA, Colombia -- In a case concerning a male prisoner who self-identifies as a woman in the rural eastern plains of Colombia, the Colombian Constitutional Court announced this week that it had overturned a lower court ruling that prohibited her from wearing makeup and earrings.

In the lawsuit, Lastra Ortiz, reported intense and constant harassment by prison guards because of her gender identity.
