San Diego Democrats for Equality to host Prop B debate

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Democrats for Equality will host a debate on Proposition B - the Comprehensive Pension Reform ballot initiative -at its next meeting on Thursday, April 26.

Moderated by Voice of San Diego political writer Liam Dillon, the forum will feature Lani Lutar, president and CEO of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, speaking in favor of the proposed initiative, and San Diego City Councilmember and Budget Committee Chair Todd Gloria, speaking in opposition.

Councilmember Carl DeMaio forms Retirement Security Task Force for City of San Diego

SAN DIEGO – In an effort to provide ideas to city officials on how to "expeditiously and properly" implement sweeping changes in city employee pension programs, San Diego City Councilmember Carl DeMaio has created a Retirement Security Task Force.

In announcing the formation of the group today, DeMaio said the task force will be comprised of outside experts who will provide advice on how to manage the transition from the old pension system to new retirement plans, which he says will offer security for employees and affordability for taxpayers.

Comprehensive Pension Reform petition qualifies for June ballot in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- The City Clerk of San Diego today certified the Comprehensive Pension Reform (CPR) ballot measure – bringing pension reform one step closer to reality in San Diego.

“The City Clerk’s verification that we have 115,991 valid signatures, well above the required amount, is evidence that San Diego voters support real reform of the city’s pension system and endorse the current effort to restore fiscal responsibility in the city,” said T.J. Zane, chairman of the Comprehensive Pension Reform for San Diego campaign.
