TONIGHT: Bob Filner to speak at Hillcrest Town Council meeting

SAN DIEGO -- Hillcrest residents are invited to tonight's Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) meeting, which will include discussion on a number of topics of interest to the neighborhood, including a presentation by Congressman Bob Filner, who is also running for mayor.

The meeting, which begins at 6:30 pm, will also include presentations from representatives of other local elected officials and allow time for participants to ask questions or make comments about issues important to them.

COMMENTARY: Boy Scouts, just … do the right thing

The other day, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced that they are continuing their ban on gays in Scouting. I can’t say it came as a shock to me, but it certainly was an utter disappointment.

Despite impassioned pleas from two of its own board members – each CEOs of Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For – BSA says there is no room for gays to be leaders or Scouts.

Two Hillcrest groups endorse Harvey Milk Street project

SAN DIEGO -- At their meetings last night, the Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) and Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) each gave their endorsements to the Committee to Commemorate Harvey Milk's proposal to rename a street in Hillcrest as Harvey Milk Street.

The residents group voted 24-3 in support of the project, which the committee will include in its application materials as the project goes through the City of San Diego's various approval and permitting processes.

Hillcrest Town Council to show neighborly love at meeting TONIGHT

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council invites those who love Hillcrest to attend its monthly meeting tonight - Valentine's Day - at 6:30 pm.

The meeting will start off with a discussion on: "What makes our neighborhood so loved?"

Meeting participants are encouraged to speak up and share reasons why they love Hillcrest with the group.

Following the discussion, the residents group will hear updates from local elected officials about community issues and time will be allotted for public comment.

City Council votes to extend Uptown Interim Height Ordinance for two years

SAN DIEGO – Several residents, business owners and concerned citizens headed to the San Diego City Council meeting on Tuesday afternoon to voice their opinions on an agenda item that would extend the Uptown Interim Height Ordinance (IHO), which expired Jan. 23.

Martinis Above Fourth to change ownership in mid-October

SAN DIEGO -- The owners of Martinis Above Fourth announced on Monday the sale of their popular Hillcrest bar, restaurant and community gathering spot to longtime San Diego residents Jim Simpson and Doru Tifui.

The venue, affectionately known by many in the community as MA4, has been owned by Chaz Weathers, Dale Dubach and John Osgood since 2004. In the nearly eight years that the trio has operated MA4, it has been transformed into a popular social hub playing host to numerous birthday and special occasion celebrations, live performances and charitable fundraisers.

Hillcrest Town Council to name two to Uptown parking board, seeks applicants

SAN DIEGO -- The Hillcrest Town Council will hold an election on Tuesday, Sept. 13, to appoint two Hillcrest residents on the newly reformed Uptown Parking District Board.

The two selected will serve as leaders and advisers to the parking board.

SAN DIEGO -- Hillcrest is a few steps closer toward being a bit more colorful thanks to an army of high heel stomping community members and other donors who participated in and supported the Amazing High Heel Race.

More than $25,000 was raised as a result of the effort, which included a combination of donations from event participants and "legacy contributions" from four local business owners.

The group invites all area renters and homeowners to the meeting, which will include a presentation from a representative of UCSD Medical Center, who will speak about improving traffic patterns on the neighborhood streets around the busy Hillcrest hospital.

Hillcrest Town Council to discuss redistricting at May 10 meeting

SAN DIEGO -- The next meeting of the Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) will be held Tuesday, May 10, from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Joyce Beers Uptown Community Center, located in the Uptown District Shopping Center.

The organization was formed in 2007 to provide a voice for and enhance the quality of life for Hillcrest renters and homeowners while supporting actions that benefit the neighborhood.
