Adam Lambert honored with Davidson/Valentini Award at GLAAD Media Awards | VIDEO

Mel B, Spice Girl and a new judge on "America's Got Talent," presented international pop star Adam Lambert with the Davidson/Valentini Award Saturday night at the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco. Lambert was also the co-recipient of the award for Outstanding Music Artist for his album Trespassing; he tied with Frank Ocean for Ocean's debut album Channel Orange. Bail raised to $500,000 for man accused of brutal attack in anti-gay hate crime

DAVIS, Calif. — Bail has been raised nearly sevenfold to $520,000 for a teenager facing hate crime allegations in the brutal beating of a Northern California man.

Last week, prosecutors detailed the injuries, including a fractured skull, suffered by Lawrence “Mikey” Partida in the early hours of March 10 in Davis, Calif.

WASHINGTON – Attorneys and plaintiffs in the historical legal challenge against California’s Proposition 8, the state law that took away marriage equality in the Golden State, are brimming with supreme confidence ahead of the oral hearing on Tuesday morning at the nation’s high court.

The nine justices of the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday will grill plaintiffs and defendants of Prop 8 as well as the Obama Administration on the lower court ruling by federal Judge Vaughn Walker that the state law is unconstitutional. That ruling was upheld by the Ninth District Court of Appeals.

First lesbian Asian-American confirmed to federal bench

WASHINGTON – Pamela Chen has been confirmed by the Senate and will become the first lesbian Asian-American judge on the federal bench.

Judge Chen will serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Newt Gingrich evolves on marriage equality

WASHINGTON – In an interview with the Huffington Post, former Republican presidential candidate and House Speaker Newt Gingrich made remarks indicating he and other GOP leaders should embrace civil marriage equality – the latest sign of powerful momentum for LGBT equality this year.

Gingrich served as Speaker of the House in 1996, when the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was passed into law.

Pioneering female comic Phyllis Diller dies at age 95

LOS ANGELES -- Legendary comic Phyllis Diller, who blazed the way for women to enter the male-dominated comedy circuit, died Monday morning at her home in Los Angeles, according to her longtime manager Milt Suchin. She was 95.

"The world has lost a true trailblazer, a gracious and kind woman, beloved by all," Suchin told The Hollywood Reporter.

"We lost a comedy legend today. Phyllis Diller was the queen of the one-liners. She was a pioneer," Ellen DeGeneres tweeted.

SAN DIEGO – A supermajority of the readers of San Diego Gay & Lesbian News who took our poll say that they do not approve of Paul Ryan, Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s choice for vice president.

Our poll question was: Do you approve of Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's choice for vice president?

The results, which are not scientific, reveal that 68% of readers dislike the Paul Ryan pick, 29% approve of the pick, and 3% are not sure.

BREAKING NEWS from the Navy: "Yes they can march at the Pride Parade"

SAN DIEGO -- Sailors based in San Diego most definitely will be allowed to march in uniform with the military contingent at San Diego Pride on Saturday, a Navy spokesman told San Diego Gay & Lesbian News this afternoon.

"Yes they can march in the Pride Parade," said Brian O'Rourke, a Navy spokesman based in San Diego.

O'Rourke said that sailors can march in the Pride Parade in their uniforms, but are reminded to obey all Navy and military regulations prohibiting such things as participation in political activities or protests. That is not the mission of the military contingent.
