Diversionary Theatre opens "The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler"

SAN DIEGO -- Diversionary Theatre’s San Diego premiere of "The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler," a literary romp from the author of "Avenue Q," Jeff Whitty and directed by Matt McGrath, officially opens tonight and runs through April 28.

Diversionary's 2013 season rounds out with "Justin Love" and "Scrooge in Rouge"

SAN DIEGO -- Diversionary Theatre has just added "Justin Love," a new musical fantasy, to complete its 2013 roster of mainstage productions.

Joining the recently closed West Coast premiere of "Birds of a Feather" and the San Diego premiere of the literary romp, "The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabbler," playing March 28-April 28, will be the West Coast premiere of Charles Busch’s hilarious spoof "The Divine Sister," May 23 - June 30, and the world premiere farce "She-Rantulas From Outer Space," Oct. 24-Nov. 17.

Diversionary to launch OpenMondays, staged readings of new works

SAN DIEGO -- Diversionary Theatre is preparing to launch OpenMondays, a new monthly series of staged readings of new works. Admission is free.

The debut will be on Monday, March 4, with the staged reading of Anthony Methvin's "Bleed Like Me." Wendy Waddell is directing a cast featuring Bryan Banville, Stewart Calhoun and Jacque Wilke.

"An Illiad" tops list of 2012 Craig Noel Awards

SAN DIEGO -- A modern interpretation of a classic text -- La Jolla Playhouse/Berkeley Repertory Theatre's production of “An Iliad” -- swept its nominated categories to receive five Craig Noel Awards on Monday night.

Moxie Theatre parlayed three strong 2012 productions to take home the Braunagel Award for outstanding contribution to the San Diego arts scene by a small-budget theater.

A total of 22 productions from nine theater companies were honored at the awards ceremony and reception, held Feb. 4 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, in La Jolla.

Diversionary Theatre casts "Birds Of A Feather"

SAN DIEGO -- Diversionary Theatre announced complete casting for its production of "Birds Of A Feather," an LGBT comedy about family by Marc Acito and directed by James Vásquez. Performances begin Jan. 31.

The cast includes Steve Gunderson as Roy/Pale Male, Kevin Koppman-Gue as Birdwatcher, Mike Sears as Silo/Lola and Rachael VanWormer as Zookeeper.

"Birds Of A Feather" is a smart and surprisingly human comedy about two bird families – a pair of male penguins at the Central Park Zoo who hatch and adopt a chick and two hawks living and raising their own brood on a Central Park rooftop.

"Hot Guys Dancing" comes to Diversionary Cabaret from Jan. 11-13

SAN DIEGO -- Six noted choreographers will be showcased in "Hot Guys Dancing," a new dance series presented at Diversionary Cabaret.

Yes, there are guys, and yes, they are hot, and yes, they will be dancing up a storm from January 11-13, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.

This new dance series is conceived and directed by Michael Mizerany and will feature a restaging of his Lester Horton Award-winning solo "Tin Soldier," performed by Malashock Dance's Justin Viernes.

Diversionary Theatre's "Scrooge In Rouge" opens TONIGHT!

SAN DIEGO -- The holiday season is in full swing and it wouldn't be complete without seeing Diversionary Theatre's "Scrooge In Rouge" - Ricky Graham's take on Charles Dickens' holiday classic "A Christmas Carol." The show opens tonight and runs through Dec. 30.

"Scrooge In Rouge" is a quick-change, cross-dressing version of the Dickens classic, set in a Victorian music hall where three actors play 23 roles. This fun holiday show is full of entertainment, rousing popular songs, comedy and specialty acts.
