$300 billion taxpayer dollars funneled to businesses in states that allow LGBT workplace discrimination

As taxpayers across the country scramble this week to complete their taxes, many will ask themselves, "Is the government spending this money wisely?" A new policy brief released ahead of Tax Day raises the same question, and calculates that the federal government spends nearly $300 billion per year in federal contract dollars on projects performed in states that have not yet passed laws to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans from workplace discrimination.

Sen. Schumer at DNC: We will pass ENDA

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- New York Sen. Chuck Schumer said passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act was a "high priority" today during an impromptu question and answer session with independent media and bloggers attending the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

"I think [ENDA is] a high priority," Schumer remarked.

Senate panel hears testimony on ENDA

WASHINGTON – A Senate panel today conducted a hearing on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which is a crucial piece of legislation that would provide workplace fairness and equality.

This morning’s hearing featured testimony from:

* M. V. Lee Badgett, research director of the Williams Institute for Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at UCLA and director of the Center for Public Policy and Administration at the University of Massachusetts Amherst

* Kylar Broadus, founder, Trans People of Color Coalition

Barney Frank to reintroduce Employment Non-Discrimination Act in Congress

Editor's note: Gay rights groups listed below jumped the gun on this news story. ENDA has not yet been filed, according to Congress.

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Barney Frank this morning said he planned reintroduced the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would prohibit workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

ENDA would make it illegal under federal law for employers with at least 15 workers to discriminate against, harass or fire anyone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
