More evidence equality is good for business

WASHINGTON – The evidence that LGBT equality is good for business is mounting, according to two new reports released late Tuesday.

ENDA reintroduced in Congress

WASHINGTON -- A bi-partisan group of Senate and House members today introduced the fully inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would prohibit most employers across the country from discriminating against LGBT workers.

In the Senate, the bill was introduced by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), and Susan Collins (R-Maine).

In the House of Representatives, the bill was introduced by Representatives Jared Polis (D-Colo.) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), and joined by more than 100 co-sponsors.

$300 billion taxpayer dollars funneled to businesses in states that allow LGBT workplace discrimination

As taxpayers across the country scramble this week to complete their taxes, many will ask themselves, "Is the government spending this money wisely?" A new policy brief released ahead of Tax Day raises the same question, and calculates that the federal government spends nearly $300 billion per year in federal contract dollars on projects performed in states that have not yet passed laws to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans from workplace discrimination.

President Barack Obama was re-elected Tuesday night after a long and grueling campaign against Republican opponent Mitt Romney. He was declared the winner at 8:13 pm PT.

Obama won the Electoral College handily, according to preliminary results.

The President crafted together a strong base on the liberal West Coast and Northeast, and won critical swing states of Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Colorado, Virginia and Minnesota. It is now clear that Obama's declaration in support of marriage equality and LGBT rights did not harm his re-election chances.

Small businesses don't mind costs of committing to LGBT equality

According to the Center for American Progress (CAP) this week, the majority of small business owners support full equality and offer whatever they can in equal benefits and programs to their LGBT employees.

The results of a nationwide poll show that most small business owners support the Employee Non-discrimination Act (ENDA), which outlaws employment discrimination against gay and transgender workers; most already prohibit discrimination on this basis, and respondents reported zero costs associated with their inclusive non-discrimination policies.
