Supreme Court to allow Obama Administration to argue against Prop 8 law

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court said Friday that the Obama Administration can have time to speak during the oral arguments on March 26 involving the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8 law that took away marriage equality in the Golden State.

Michigan tribal chairman to sign marriage bill into law

HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. – The tribal chairman of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians said he plans on Friday to sign into law the bill legalizing marriage equality for tribal members.

Minnesota state House committee approves same-sex marriage bill

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A Minnesota House committee voted Tuesday to advance a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage.

The House Civil Law Committee approved the measure on a 10-7 party-line vote, with all Democrats in favor and all Republicans opposed.

New Zealand one vote away from legalizing marriage equality

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- MPs voted 77-44 on Wednesday to advance a bill that would bring marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples in New Zealand.

The third and final vote is expected to come in April, and passage is all but assured.

If the bill is approved, the law will go into effect in August.

MP Louisa Wall, who is gay, is the bill's sponsor. She opened debate on Wednesday by wrapping up the whole issue in one sentence: "It's not about gay marriage, same-sex marriage or straight marriage," Wall said. "It's about equality."
