Paris gay couple say they were beaten amid rise in homophobic attacks

PARIS — A gay couple in Paris said they were attacked and beaten on Saturday for walking arm-in-arm in what LGBT advocates in the country say is indicative of a rise in anti-gay attacks in France since Parliament began debating a measure that would legalize same-sex marriage.

PHOENIX — Matt R. Salmon, the gay son of U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.), says it’s hard for him to understand why people “jump to the conclusion” that his father is anti-gay.

“Yeah, he doesn’t support gay marriage, but that doesn’t make him a bigot at all,” the younger Salmon told KPNX-TV in Phoenix.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A Republican leader in the Illinois House said Monday that his support for legalizing gay marriage in the state could persuade colleagues to join him on an issue he says has “tremendous momentum,” while the Governor told reporters he’s confident same-sex marriage will soon become law in Illinois.

Rep. Ed Sullivan Jr. of Mundelein said his position is influenced by his mother-in-law, who has been in a lesbian relationship for about 20 years.

Maná supports marriage equality, urges fans to respect LGBT community

Maná, a red-hot rock band from Mexico, recently told its 8 million followers on Facebook that it supports marriage equality.

South Africa is a leader in the world of equality, enjoying an all inclusive constitution, where same-sex marriage is legal and discrimination against LGBTI people outlawed. However that has not stopped homophobia and fear to embrace LGBTI South Africans as fully equal.

Gay detainee accuses immigration authorities of endangering his life

SAN DIEGO – A 26-year-old gay man is accusing two immigration guards in El Centro, Calif. of making anti-gay slurs at him, violently roughing him up while in custody, and putting in danger his health and his life.

He is pleading for immigration officials to give him a crucial medicine needed to prevent seizures and a special diet necessary to control his colitis.
