FilmOut to present John Waters’ musical comedy “Cry-Baby,” starring Johnny Depp | VIDEO

SAN DIEGO – The wonderfully twisted mind of director John Waters has produced a cult following for his many movies, including at FilmOut San Diego.

FilmOut’s monthly screening in April will be another John Waters’ classic, “Cry-Baby” (1990), starring a young Johnny Depp who had just achieved teeny-bopper stardom on the hit TV series, “21 Jump Street.”

SAN DIEGO – It’s now clear why Warner Brothers pulled the plug on FilmOut San Diego’s Whitney Houston tribute and 20th anniversary screening of “The Bodyguard.”

SAN DIEGO -- FilmOut San Diego on Tuesday afternoon reluctantly canceled its planned tribute to gay icon and music diva Whitney Houston and the screening of "The Bodyguard" that was planned for Wednesday at the historic Birch North Park Theatre.

SAN DIEGO -- FilmOut San Diego will present a tribute to gay icon and music diva Whitney Houston on Wednesday, at the historic Birch North Park Theatre.

FilmOut San Diego offers 7-day guest pass to FIT Athletic Club

SAN DIEGO -- As a perk for supporters of FilmOut San Diego a 7-day guest pass to FIT Athletic Club is being offered.

FIT is downtown San Diego's premier athletic club, featuring a wide variety of workout equipment, classes, and amenities in an upscale environment. The club also includes a roof-top swimming pool, lounge area, and a view of Petco Park.

Those who have not visited the club before are welcome to activate the guest pass, but must do so by March 22.

COMMUNITY PROFILE: Tom Kirkman

Tom Kirkman is a volunteer extraordinaire!

Whether he is working as an usher at the monthly FilmOut San Diego screenings, tending bar at The Diversionary Theatre, or helping with San Diego LGBT Pride activities, Kirkman lends a hand whenever a community group needs it.

As former executive director of San Diego's SAGE Center - Seniors Active in A Gay Environment - Kirkman enjoys giving back to the community that his given so much to him!

Kirkman is 69 years old, single, and has lived in San Diego for 11 years. He hails from Lawrence, Massachusetts.

FilmOut San Diego to present Audrey Hepburn classic “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”

SAN DIEGO – Feel a little romance in the air this Valentine's Day? Take your sweetheart to see the Audrey Hepburn classic “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” at the featured monthly screening by FilmOut San Diego.

The 1961 romantic comedy, chosen by the FilmOut staff as a Valentine to local audiences, will be shown at 7 pm Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the historic Birch North Park Theatre. Tickets are $10 at the box office or slightly higher if purchased online.

SDGLN Poll: Majority of readers have attended a FilmOut San Diego event

SAN DIEGO – A majority of readers of San Diego Gay & Lesbian News who took our poll say that they have attended an event sponsored by FilmOut San Diego.

Our poll question was: FilmOut San Diego will present "Shortbus" on Jan. 18. Have you ever attended a FilmOut event?

The results, which are not scientific, reveal that 53% of readers say that they been to a FilmOut event, while 47% say they have not.

The SDGLN Reader Poll is open for voting for seven consecutive days. A new poll question will debut each Monday.
