San Antonio mayor appoints LGBT liaison

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro has appointed Adam Greenup to serve as the city’s chief LGBT Liaison.

“The Mayor’s new appointment is good news for LGBT San Antonians,” said Fred Sainz, HRC vice president. “We’ve seen time and again that when leaders lead, it does wonders for LGBT equality. We’re looking forward to working with the Mayor and Adam on some local initiatives in San Antonio.”

Top anti-marriage donor in Maryland is active in white supremacist, secessionist causes

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is calling on the Maryland Marriage Alliance to return the $10,000 donation of Michael Peroutka, an active white supremacist and secessionist sympathizer who was one of the three largest individual donors to the campaign against marriage equality in Maryland.

WASHINGTON -- Following recent victories for same-sex marriage in Maine, Maryland and Washington state this election cycle, the Human Rights Campaign on Sunday announced the launch of a national TV ad campaign aimed at growing public support for marriage equality.

HRC: "2012 will be the year of marriage equality"

WASHINGTON – “It looks like 2012 will be the year of marriage equality.”

So says Fred Sainz, former spokesman for San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, who is now vice president of communications and marketing for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

The HRC conducted a teleconference on Wednesday afternoon to discuss that status of marriage equality and other LGBT issues on court dockets and ballots in November. Sainz led an upbeat media briefing featuring Brian Moulton, HRC legal director, and Sarah Warbelow, HRC state legislative director.

Prop 8 legal defense team seeks millions for Supreme Court fight to uphold discrimination

WASHINGTON – The Prop 8 Legal Defense Fund is offering new insight into how much it costs to continue pushing their discriminatory agenda against LGBT Americans, and the numbers are high.

The organization is soliciting supporters for an additional $2 million to defend Prop 8 before the U.S. Supreme Court, and claims that it’s already spent $10 million on efforts to prevent loving, committed same-sex couples from marrying.
