National Engagement Party aims to raise cash for marriage equality

WASHINGTON – Freedom to Marry has launched the National Engagement Party, a program of house-parties nationwide to raise awareness and funds for battles to win marriage ballot-measures in key states this November.

The National Engagement Party will take place in cities across the country on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Conservatives for marriage equality seek RNC's support

WASHINGTON – Members of the Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry leadership committee sent a letter to the Platform Committee of the Republican National Committee today asking it to resist adding language to the Republican Party platform opposing the freedom of same-sex couples to marry.

“Republicans cherish freedom, family and community as basic conservative principles,” said conservative commentator, political strategist and CNN contributor Margaret Hoover, who is a member of the Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry leadership committee.

Broad coalition launches website, toolkit to support Respect for Marriage Act

WASHINGTON – The Respect for Marriage Coalition, comprising 75 diverse organizations dedicated to passing the Respect for Marriage Act, today launched a website, toolkit and materials that will spur grassroots efforts to urge Congress to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.

The Respect for Marriage Act (H.R.1116 and S.598) would repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which withholds critical federal protections and respect from legally married same-sex couples.

Freedom to Marry celebrates one-year anniversary of marriage equality in New York

NEW YORK – With today marking the anniversary of the first marriage licenses issued to same-sex couples in New York, Freedom to Marry is turning the spotlight on a diverse group of couples who are sharing their inspiring stories.

WASHINGTON – In a stunning reversal, the star witness against same-sex marriage at the Proposition 8 trial in California has come out in support of gay weddings.

David Blankenhorn, founder and president of the Institute for American Values and author of "The Future Of Marriage," said today in The New York Times that he now supports the freedom to marry for same-sex couples, calling it “a victory for basic fairness.”
