The Center to celebrate 39 years at black-tie gala Saturday

SAN DIEGO – It’s not often that San Diego’s LGBT community dons tuxedos, gowns and other formal wear in support of a charitable cause. The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s annual gala – taking place this Saturday, Oct. 6 – is one exception as supporters of the organization’s work will come together for a glamorous evening of food, drinks, dancing, celebration and charity.

Tickets available for The Center's 39th anniversary gala

SAN DIEGO -- Tickets are still available for The San Diego LGBT Community Center's 39th Anniversary Gala, taking place Saturday, Oct. 6.

The event often sells out, so supporters of The Center are encouraged to buy their tickets now to make sure they have a seat.

More than 600 people are expected to attend the event, which will take place at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, and include a cocktail hour, gourmet dinner, silent auction, a brief program and live entertainment.

San Diego Women's Chorus put their hearts into their harmony

SAN DIEGO -- Music lovers will get a big dose of Heart and Harmony this weekend, when the 70+ strong San Diego Women's Chorus (SDWC) performs their annual Spring concert.

Held at the Mission Hills United Church of Christ, 4070 Jackdaw in Mission Hills, this Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 7 pm and again Sunday, May 6, at 3 pm, board president and singing member Carin Scheinin couldn't be more proud of this year's line-up and their extra special guest, Randi Driscoll.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Women’s Chorus (SDWC) will present two performances of its 24th annual winter concert, “Heaven & Earth,” this weekend at Mission Hills United Church of Christ.

The show will include a number of entertaining and inspiring winter-themed, socially-inspired music suitable for all ages. The wide range of selections will include “Firework” by Katy Perry, “Heaven on Earth” by Melissa Etheridge, and classic winter favorites like The Nutcracker’s “Russian Dance,” “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Mr. Santa.”

VIDEO: LGBT community movers and shakers to support The Center's anniversary gala Saturday

SAN DIEGO -- More than 600 people are expected to attend The San Diego LGBT Community Center's 38th annual gala Saturday evening, considered by many to be the community's premier philanthropic social event.

The event, which is the signature fundraising event for The Center's programs and services, is typically considered a "must attend" gathering for many of San Diego's civic leaders, elected officials, business leaders, philanthropists, and other "movers and shakers."

SAN DIEGO -- Tickets are now being sold for The Center's 38th Anniversary Gala, which The San Diego LGBT Community Center calls "the premier LGBT of event the year."

More than 700 people are expected to attend black tie suggested affair, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The evening event will include a gourmet dinner, dessert, dancing, awards presentation and a silent auction.

Film, gala on May 20 will benefit new HIV awareness group, the ArcHIVe Project

SAN DIEGO -- A screening of the film “Philadelphia” and a gala later this week will benefit a new grass-roots group called the ArcHIVe Project.

The film will be shown on Friday, May 20, at the Birch North Park Theatre, followed immediately by a gala at the Sunset Temple Ballroom nearby.

SAN DIEGO -- Tickets are now available for the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation's (SDHDF) annual Foundation Night, to be held June 11 at Anthology, 1337 India St. in Little Italy.

This year's event will celebrate the organization's 15-years of service to the LGBT community.

SDHDF was founded in 1996 with a gift from the estate of Lincoln Aston in the amount of $32,000. Today, SDHDF is the third largest LGBT-focused community foundation in the United States, distributing over $2 million in grants to local non-profits.

UCLA's sexual orientation and gender identity think-tank to celebrate 10th anniversary

LOS ANGELES -- UCLA's academic research center on sexual orientation and gender identity, The Williams Institute, will celebrate it 10th anniversary next month.

As a national think-tank housed at UCLA's School of Law, the Institute works to advance sexual orientation law and public policy through independent research and scholarship. The Williams Institute disseminates its findings to judges, legislators, policy-makers, media and the public.

Dignity Foundation sets date for annual gala, moving to Eden

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation (SDHDF) has announced the date for its 2011 fundraising gala.

The Foundation Night, SDHDF's 15th anniversary gala, will be held Saturday, June 11, at Eden San Diego, a new venue for this event.

"We are planning something truly special to celebrate our 15th anniversary! And we are bringing the party back into our community with the brand new venue on University Avenue - Eden!" the foundation said.
