WASHINGTON – The highly respected American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) declared today that it supported same-sex marriage because it was in the best interest of gays and lesbians who want to marry as well as their families.

Court ruling: Germany strengthens gay adoption rights

Germany's highest court on Tuesday strengthened the rights of same-sex couples to adopt, though stopped short of allowing gay and lesbian civil partnerships unlimited freedom to become adoptive parents.

The Constitutional Court ruled as expected that one member of a civil partnership must be given the right to adopt their partner's stepchild or adopted child. Until now, unlike heterosexual married couples, they were only able to adopt a partner's biological child.

Appeals court denies lesbian spouse parental adoption rights

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals has denied a lesbian the right to adopt her partner’s 6-year-old son, because the the state does not permit or recognize same-sex marriages or civil unions.

“All Children – All Families” initiative to encourage LGBT fostering and adopting

WASHINGTON – The “All Children – All Families” initiative of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation today announced a new partnership with RaiseAChild.US, a nonprofit with the mission to promote and encourage the LGBT community to build families of their own through fostering and adoption.

The pilot project will produce recruitment events and media campaigns in major cities across the country, raising visibility of LGBT parents and the fostering and adoption process.

NCLR applauds California ruling recognizing same-sex parent of adopted children as a legal parent

SAN FRANCISCO — The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) applauds the California Court of Appeal decision confirming that when a same-sex couple raises a child together who was legally adopted by only one of the partners, both parents should be recognized under California law. NCLR submitted an amicus brief to the Court of Appeal in the case supporting recognition of both parents.

Adoption forum to urge child welfare agencies to include gay families

WASHINGTON – Bryan Samuels, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner of the Administration for Children, Youth and Families, will be joining the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), LGBT families and representatives from area child welfare agencies for an adoption forum on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The forum will recognize the close of National Adoption Month and call on child welfare professionals to include LGBT families, year-round, in their efforts to expand the pool of families for foster youth.

Philippine President Aquino voices limited support for gay rights

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has voiced some support for gay rights, but stopped short of endorsing gay marriage or adoption.

Aquino made the comments during a visit to New York, where same-sex unions were legalised in July.

The Philippines has a vibrant gay scene and a gay political party which has been pushing for an anti-discrimination bill for 11 years.

But the Roman Catholic Church remains opposed to the Bill, claiming it will open the door to gay marriage.

Legal experts urge Supreme Court to address discrimination against children with unmarried adoptive parents

SAN FRANCISCO -- The National Center for Lesbian Rights and Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP filed an amicus brief today on behalf of leading family law, constitutional law and conflict of laws professors and legal experts asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review a decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals holding that Louisiana can discriminate against children born in Louisiana and adopted by unmarried parents in other states by refusing to issue them accurate birth certificates.
