Iowa high court rules children born to married lesbian couples have two birth parents

DES MOINES, Iowa - Tthe Iowa Supreme Court today built upon its ruling in Lambda Legal's landmark case, Varnum v. Brien, which ordered that same-sex couples and their families be treated equally under Iowa law, and ordered the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) to provide an accurate two-parent birth certificate to all children born to lesbian married parents in Iowa.

The Court was unanimous in ordering the State to treat children of lesbian couples as having two parents at birth.

Out country singer Chely Wright announced that she is pregnant with identical twins on this week’s Gwissues with Howard Bragman. Wright and her wife Lauren Blitzer-Wright said, “We feel like God blessed us with twins. We feel our entire relationship has been blessed. We feel lucky and ready to take on the challenges.”

Elton John, David Furnish are parents for second time

LOS ANGELES – Elton John and David Furnish are daddies again.

The power couple said via the pop superstar’s website that their son, Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, was born on Friday, Jan. 11, in Los Angeles.
The baby weighed 8 pounds and 4 ounces, and was given birth by a surrogate mother.

John, 65, and Furnish, 50, are the parents of 2-year-old Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, also born in California via a surrogate mother.

France’s first baby of 2013 born to lesbian couple

A woman in a lesbian relationship has given birth to the first baby of the year in France.

The baby boy, named Sacha, was born on the morning of New Year’s Day between midnight and a minute past midnight at the Moulins Hospital Centre.

His birth mother Maude has been in a PACS civil union with her partner Delphine since 2010, according to France TV.

Sacha, measuring 48.5 cm long and weighing 2.92 kilograms, was conceived through artificial insemination.

Ryan Murphy tweets photo of his baby boy

LOS ANGELES – Proud papa Ryan Murphy on New Year’s Day tweeted the first public photograph of his infant son Logan Phineas Miller Murphy, who was born on Christmas Eve.

“Thanks to everyone for the kind wishes. Logan is one week old and doing great. Happy new year!” Murphy tweeted.

Ryan Murphy-David Miller welcome baby on Christmas Eve

The creator of NBC’s hit sitcom “The New Normal,” about a gay couple who are planning to become parents, and his husband became first-time daddies on Christmas Eve.

Ryan Murphy and hubby David Miller emailed friends and family that their son, Logan Phineas Miller Murphy, was born at 9:47 am on Dec. 24 and weighed 6.6 pounds and was 21 inches long at birth.

The fictional couple on “The New Normal” are still waiting for their baby to arrive.

Study: No difference in development of foster kids adopted by gay or straight parents

High-risk children adopted from foster care by gay parents fare equally in their cognitive and emotional development as those adopted by heterosexual parents, according to a new UCLA study published in the October issue of the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry.
