State Department web page, app offer advice to LGBT travelers

WASHINGTON – The U.S. State Department has updated its website to include “LGBT Travel Information” helpful to travelers who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

The page provides important information to LGBT travelers about attitudes and tolerance in the countries they are planning to visit. For example, it is illegal to be gay in 76 countries, so LGBT travelers should be aware of local customs and laws.

Gay paradise Fire Island damaged in superstorm

BABYLON, Long Island, N.Y. – The gay mecca of Fire Island sustained serious damage in the Frankenstorm known as Hurricane Sandy.

Storm surge overwhelmed the 31-mile-long barrier island and caused serious damage to many buildings facing the Atlantic Ocean, Suffolk County officials say.

Dozens of buildings were pulverized by pounding waves and high winds, and some were washed out to sea. Erosion changed the landscape of beaches in the area.

Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Executive, told the media that the barrier island was breached in at least four places.

Can San Diego become a hub for gay tourism?

SAN DIEGO -- New York has Broadway, Las Vegas boasts hip pool parties and a dynamic night life, L.A. has Hollywood, and San Diego has SeaWorld, the zoo and ... Hillcrest.

Already a top destination for leisure travelers, San Diego, it turns out, also holds wide appeal for the gay visitor and not just because it has a trendy urban neighborhood teeming with gay-friendly bars, restaurants and boutiques. Trouble is, its big-city rivals have been far more aggressive in trumpeting their virtues to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) traveler.

Marriott to LGBT guests: "Be You, With Us"

Marriott International today announced a new marketing campaign aimed at LGBT travelers, friends and families – "Be You, With Us."

The "Be You, With Us" campaign launches in celebration of Pride season (often observed from June through September) in cities around the world that host gay pride parades and festivals to celebrate the LGBT community.

UPDATED: Two gay cruise ship passengers from California accused of buggery in Dominica

ROSEAU, Dominica -- Two men from California, passengers on a gay cruise organized by Atlantis Events, have been charged with buggery and indecent exposure in Dominica.

John Robert Hart, 41, and Dennis Jay Mayer, 53, of Palm Springs are expected to appear in court on Thursday morning after being arrested after debarking the Celebrity X Cruises ship, which was docked in Roseau, the Dominican capital.

Dominica law criminalizes same-sex sexual activity for gays and lesbians.

Authorities said that a person on the dock saw the two men having sex on the ship and called police.
