Mexico begins accepting gay blood donations

New blood donation regulations screening donors based on sexual history rather than sexual orientation have been implemented in Mexico, making it the first country in North America to end its ban on men who have sex with men donating blood.

The new regulations came into effect Dec. 25 and now means any HIV and Hepatitis negative gay or bisexual man who has a history of safe sex and is not a sex worker or injecting drug user may donate blood.

The rule was approved in August and then published in the Official Journal of the Mexican Federation on October 26.

PRISTINA, Kosovo -- Thugs attacked the launch of a magazine's gay issue in the Balkan city of Pristina, allegedly beating guests and throwing teargas.

The event on Friday (Dec. 14) to celebrate Kosovo 2.0 magazine's latest issue exploring sex and sexuality was targeted twice by a group of hooligans who eyewitnesses claim were Muslim.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Momentum is building in California and across the country to put an end to dangerous efforts designed to change a young person’s sexual orientation or gender expression that have proven to inflict great emotional harm and have resulted in suicide.

Butch on Tap: Tie one on

Just in time for Pride, I have some fashion advice for you butches out there. Read on, and make an extra splash at this weekend’s events.

As do many good butches, I love ties. Bow ties, long ties, skinny ties, fat ties - I love them all.

For a butch, a tie is a major fashion statement.

It dresses up an outfit. It makes an outfit cool. It can add a bit of uber-geek nerdiness to an urban sheik outfit - offering the perfect balance.

I just love the look. Put a bow tie on with jeans, a cardigan and dress shoes, and watch out.

Butch on Tap: Stone butch beer

A recent work day ended with a trip to Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – a kind of Mecca for beer lovers, butch and otherwise.

The reason was bad, a farewell for a laid-off colleague, but he was in good spirits and the beer was very good.

Stone is a big, cool place with lots of rocks and open beams.

It has a ton of gardens and pathways. These are useless, of course, for the drinker. Unless you need a breather or want to wander off with your femme for a little break.

Getting drunk means less cool beers to try, so timing and spacing are important.

Butch on Tap: Wait for it ...

I would like to talk about a serious problem. Something so rampant and so disturbing that there should be a slew of 501(c)3 non-profit organizations dedicated to eradicating it, or maybe a telethon:

Waiting for my femme to get ready.

Seriously. I feel like I spend half my life waiting for her to be ready. Ok, that’s an exaggeration, it’s probably only a quarter of my life. But. Still.

Let me paint the picture for you.

Butch on Tap: Behind enemy lines

So, I just made it out of the ladies' room unscathed. This is a daily stress for me. Allow me to explain.

For a butch, using a public restroom is one of the worst things.

I don't present myself as a typical woman, right? And, I certainly am no lady.

This makes a trip into the ladies' room a lot like a trip across enemy lines.

I try to get in, take care of business, wash my hands, and get out as fast as possible - without getting shot.

Butch on Tap: Tapping in

(Editor's Note: SDGLN is pleased to welcome our newest contributor, "Butch Jaxon." Butch recently started a blog about beer, but her writing quickly took a sharp turn and it became more about what it is like to experience the world as a butch lesbian. Her insight and honesty when describing situations -- that many of us may take for granted -- was refreshing. For now, she will write using a pseudonym. We hope you enjoy her experiences.)

When SDGLN asked me if they could repost my blog, I was delighted.

Allow me to introduce myself.
