Pat Griffin and Helen Carroll honored for their significant work with LGBT youth sports

You’d be hard-pressed to name two people who have collectively had a stronger impact on the gay-sports movement than Pat Griffin and Helen Carroll.

These two pioneers have been working toward equality for the better part of 30 years.

They’ve visited high schools. They’ve talked to colleges. They’ve waged legal campaigns. They’ve educated educators.

And with more incredible work in 2011, our readers have named these two women our "Persons of the Year."

San Diego Padres pledge to make it better for local LGBT kids their own way

Although four different petitions can be found circulating from the website urging the San Diego Padres to join the "It Gets Better" project, the team has found an alternative way to show their emerging support of the LGBT community.

On the heels of the All-Star break and in the final days leading up to San Diego's 37th annual Pride celebration, the Padres have announced they support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth (LGBT) and have signed a pledge with the national Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to prove it.
