GOP should not "crusade against same-sex marriage," College Republicans say

Republicans should back off opposition to same-sex marriage, College Republicans argue in a new report on how to gain the support of young voters.

Using a March survey of young voters, those under 30, by the College Republicans National Committee, the report found that many young voters would not vote for a Republican candidate if they opposed same-sex marriage, even if they agreed with the candidate on a range of other issues.

Founding members of GoProud to step down from day-to-day operations

The founding members of the gay conservatives group GoProud said Friday that are stepping away from their day-to-day roles at the organization they started four years ago as a grassroots alternative to the Log Cabin Republicans.

Jimmy LaSalvia, the group’s executive director, and chief strategist Christopher Barron said they will step down from their leadership positions, but will remain active in the organization as members of the board of directors.

On Friday the RNC unanimously adopted a resolution declaring that mixed-gender marriage is holy, but same-gender marriage is un-holy. 100 percent of the Republican Congressional leadership – Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia), House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-California), and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) – and 98 percent of all other Republicans in Congress – oppose marriage equality.

Gay Republican candidate anticipates a few GOP "knuckleheads" in Congress

LYNNFIELD, Mass. — Richard Tisei knows he might encounter a few “knuckleheads” in the House GOP conference if he joins its ranks as the first openly gay Republican in Congress next year.

But so far, Tisei says, he’s heard only encouragement.

“I feel totally comfortable,” Tisei said during an interview in his campaign headquarters in Lynnfield, Mass.

“I’m sure that there are a few knuckleheads that will, you know, look at me based on my sexuality as opposed to what I bring to the table. But I’ve got to say, every single person I’ve met so far has made me feel really comfortable.”
