NFL promises to protect players who come out

ALBANY, N.Y. -- With talk of several professional football players coming out in the near future, the NFL has agreed to protect gay players from harassment and discrimination.

The NFL met with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to discuss the issue. On Tuesday, the AG said the meeting was productive and that the NFL will establish a "culture of inclusion" for gay players. League officials said locker rooms posters, for example, would promote NFL's anti-discrimination policies.

    Parents say anti-gay bullying is to blame for son's suicide

    FENTON, Mich. -- The parents of a Michigan high school student who took his own life last week believe anti-gay bullying is to blame.

    Josh Pacheco, 17, committed suicide on Nov. 27. His mother, Lynnette Capehart, said that Josh was gay, which led to him being bullied both inside and outside of school, reported MLive.

    In Uganda, police raid workshop on gay rights, arrest LGBT activists

    Police in Kampala, Uganda on Monday raided a gay rights meeting and arrested several LGBT activists gathered at the Essela Hotel in Najjeera, a Kampala suburb, accusing the participants of “propagating gay issues in Uganda.”

    East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project, the organization behind the workshop, said that police interrupted the meeting and began questioning attendees at the event, including activists from Canada, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.

    LAS VEGAS -- Pop superstar Lady Gaga dedicated her rendition of "Hair" at the iHeartRadio Music Festival to 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer of Buffalo, N.Y., who killed himself on Sept. 18 after enduring endless anti-gay bullying online and at school.

    An emotional Lady Gaga told the huge audience: "I just wanted to take a moment because we lost a little monster this week. Jamey, I know you're looking down on use and you're not a victim, you're a lesson to all of us."

    Jamey sent a "thank you" message to Lady Gaga just before taking his own life.

    Minnesota school district caught in center of storm over bullying

    COON RAPIDS, Minn. -- Superintendent Dennis Carlson stood and ran his fingers over a map of the Anoka-Hennepin School District, pointing out factors and rattling off statistics that make the area both a bastion of conservative thought and a sphere for social activism.

    Now, with a federal investigation and a high-profile lawsuit hanging over the district, it's also the latest epicenter in the national debate over bullying based on sexual orientation.
