Gay athletes to raise awareness of homophobia in sport

PHILADELPHIA -- Out professional soccer player Joanna Lohman will headlining an event to raise awareness of homophobia and discrimination in sport.

The GO! (Generation Out!) Athletes event will be from 7 to 9 pm EDT on Thursday, Oct. 11, in Bodek Lounge in Houston Hall at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

The event will provide opportunities for the scholar athlete community to come together to hear stories by OUT sports role models. GO! Athletes envisions this relaunch as the first of many awareness-building initiatives to occur across the nation.

Groundbreaking Nike LGBT Sports Summit takes on bullying, homophobia and transphobia in sports

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Many of the nation’s top LGBT sports leaders joined Nike representatives at Nike World Headquarters for the first-ever Nike LGBT Sports Summit to combat bullying and anti-LGBTQ bias and discrimination in sports.

Advocates and organizations pooled their expertise and strengths over four days — June 14 to June 17 — to develop a unified plan to end harassment and discrimination against LGBT athletes and coaches in kindergarten through high school, college, recreational sports and professional sports.

NCLR applauds new NCAA inclusionary policy regarding transgender athletes

SAN FRANCISCO -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recently announced that it has approved and clarified opportunities for transgender student athletes to participate on college athletic teams in accordance with their gender identity.

The NCAA worked closely with NCLR's Sports Project and Griffin Educational Consulting on the policy.
